Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

We have about £80m (price paid) worth of 'talent' out of contract at the end of the season.

The club ought to be moving heaven and earth to get some kind of return on their investment - the likes of Maupay, Holgate and Keane are proven (in some cases, time and time again) not to be first choice across the season.

We have a striker that won't extend his contract and cannot score goals, yet interest was there from Newcastle.

The club is absolutely diabolical at offloading players, unless it's our best players that are being plucked from us.

The legacy of overpaying on fees meaning we can't sell them at a p&s loss, and paying top wages for mediocre players which teams who may take them don't go close to matching.

Example Kean on 80k no team he'd play for would come close to giving him that, holgate on 70k - an even more extreme example, what mid table championship teams offering him even a third of that, maupay on about 65k which teams matching that whilst also covering his 5m p&s hit on us, and DCL on around 90-100k whose giving hom that or more which he seems to want whilst also paying 25m plus.

Maupay aside I'll give thelwell some leeway, he's been lumbered with so many bad deals from the past on almost unmovable on players....

"Maupay aside I'll give thelwell some leeway".

Ironic as he didnt sign him.

Do any of these so called journalists ever enquire or report on as to why we never look ready for the start of a season?

It’s going to be yet another “the season starts now after five games “ routine isn’t it with the usual suspects peddling that narrative yet again.

Sycophants. Will be getting told to give our heads a wobble again soon

Ipswich are doing what Forest done 2 years ago, spending to try and stay up, they don’t have any PSR issues

All of our transfer deals have been in a sensible price bracket in terms of both wage and price, Phillips on his full City wage for a year on the back of his shambolic half season at West Ham would have been an utterly brainless move on our part
It's not the point mate, most top flight football games and newly promoted Ipswich can beat us in the market,

This is the most damning.

Chermo is of course injured, but lets be honest, its unlikely he would have started anyway.

So thats around 80m worth of players, plus a 20m* pound player just sitting on the bench.

100m on "back-ups"? While we have Ashley Young starting games?

Its not for me really.

No idea who is to blame, but its a farce.
It's a combination of Dyche, Thelwell and the recruitment team who are to blame. We need there to be a clear strategy behind recruitment and agreement between management and recruitment team.

I just don't understand how we can afford to spend good money on back up players when our first team is so bad. It makes me extremely frustrated and I'm baffled why the general feeling is we've had a good transfer window. I think its been fairly abysmal so far.

We urgently need a new right back—relying on someone nearing 40 for our opening game isn't good

Agree 100% playing with young is worse than playing with 10 men.

At least with ten men you know your down a man … young gives you the illusion of playing with 11 but he offers nothing in attack and is a liability in defence .

If we can’t get a rb we need to find another cm and play garner as RB … as holgate is basically the same level as young but just younger

DCL would go, Nketiah would come in and Dyche would start Keane up top

He’s play Beto as Nketiah has not had a “ proper dyche “ pre season… he’s get a couple of 2 min sub appearances and next season would get a full pre season but then not get pkayed as he hasn’t enough prem experience , dyche has been working in the prem for 10 years and it’s his job to make sure they’re ready before putting them in .

Whoever decided to offer new contracts to both Young and Coleman should be sacked

I can understand keeping one of them for depth, but it makes no sense to keep both when they largely cover the same position. It makes it really difficult to plan forward at that position. No other top flight club would make a decision like that.

But they don’t offer depth , they are liabilies … all they’re doing is sucking 90k a week from the wage bill between them.

That could have been used to pay the salary of a decent rb
