Again, neither of them is very good or scores goals, but one of them fits slightly better in the system and loses the ball less. I'm not saying that DCL is good, just a bit better than Beto.

With limited funds, you spend it on the area(s) that most need attention right now. Most blues believe the area most in need of attention is the attack.

To have not prioritised those positions is incompetence. To have chosen to spend £16m on a 3rd choice CB (no matter how good he may transpire to be) is unforgiveable.

Succession planning is even MORE important if we go down.

Surely you can see that several years of knee-jerk purchasing with no view of anything beyond the short term is EXACTLY what has got us into the position we're in?

Upgrading the attack (as you insist needs to take priority) whilst doing nothing about midfield or defence would absolutely get us relegated. We are a better team with Iroegbunam and O'Brien than we would be without them, and bringing them both in at least allows us to TRY to shift Keane, or Holgate, or Doucoure. If we keep those high earners at the club and continue paying them huge wages until they leave on frees them we're just repeating the same errors.

We have loan slots left available and that's how we should be looking to bolster our attacking options. We were never buying a new CF with DCL, Beto, Chermiti and Maupay all under contract. Now Maupay is history, thank goodness, we might see some movement... But unless one of DCL or Beto is sold, you're only going to see a loan come in.
