Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Sadly not. The league scrutinise the value of a player in this scenario - as when Newcastle sold St Maximin to Saudi, it had to be at market value.
Who decides market value. You would assume the value is set buy the buying clubs need and the potential impact to the selling team in terms of squad and squad balance.

Good point.

We thought we were ok until the PL questioned a Stadium loan last time out.
Could be that pretence is actually putting a shift in and leaking that we aren’t skint contrary to the lazy journo reporting that we’ve got to sell, organised, hard to beat dross that gets wheeled out in every article about us and actually putting the heat back onto the Mancs to say “if you really want him then pay up or do one”

Its interesting how the narrative changes dependent on who the selling club are!

For years the whole world and there dog backed Palace because there value of Zaha was far more than anyone was willing to pay.

Its all a lot of paper talk end of the day, i very doubt United would use the terms of 'Get Real'. Although that opening bid was derogatory.

Great if so but we'd have to be very confident in the interest hearing going our way to try to sneak just inside the number we need when that number remains subject to change.

I hope we are budgeting for the worst possible outcome rather than hoping for the best.

Happy to go into more detail but we are closer to budgeting for the worst possible outcome rather than hoping for the best (your evidence is the supposedly pending Dobbin sale). Just FYI in the *best* case scenario, we are right on the threshold in regards to PSR - roughly £5m either side depending on the values of the book profit made on Cannon, Simms, Iwobi, and Gray.

You'll know if we're budgeting for the *worst* possible outcome in respect of the interest hearing because you'll see a DCL sale before the 31st of June (it won't be Onana because he's at the EUROs, and it won't be Branthwaite because there's no club currently willing to go to our valuation).

I'm assuming a DCL sale at some point because he still hasn't signed a contract extension despite having been in discussion for three weeks and there are other clubs expressing interest due to the time left on his current contract, a la Iwobi to Fulham.

Are we unable to sell a player who is actively in the Euros? Do we need to hope Belgium are knocked out before 30 June so we can sell Onana?

Me too but there is concern in the back of my mind that the PL will find a way to punish us for this.
I don't think they can. Its 2 separate transfers arranged between 2 clubs at 2 'reasonable' prices.

If they haven't questioned a lot of City's sales of academy players to former employee's for questionable fee's (Wilcox, Kompany)

Or Arsenal taking David Raya on loan for a year before actually buying him, then they aren't going to question a couple of £10m transfers

We don’t concede a lot of goals because we defend deep, don’t commit men forward and launch long balls rather than playing through the lines.
All the same reasons why we don’t score many goals.

We are miles off those 2 sides presently.

This is a different argument, I agree things can change quickly,
With good
Owners, recruitment, sponsorship deals the new ground etc.
But you also need a very good manager, dyche can’t take us to the next level imo,
Because of his limited style and approach

If there is a gap between us and them, it's a gap that both of those clubs were able to overcome within a very short period of time having been in our position not long ago, and they both coincided with positive takeovers of the respective clubs (Newcastle and Villa).

I hate this idea that Everton's recovery must take far longer than their recovery, and that our recovery has to come in the form of incremental improvement over several years, and that we are incapable of replicating the swift improvements seen at Villa and Newcastle.

Dyche will probably get another season, but it's just a matter of time before our new overlords replace him with an upgrade imo.

But even with Dyche, I think we created more than enough chances to score winning goals last season, and the reason that we never did was more due to our attackers being donkeys than our style of play.

Sort our attack out and we can compete with the likes of Newcastle imo, never mind Brighton, who finished on the exact same points as Everton last season.

We certainly could sell a player who is actively in the EUROs in theory? But there are loads of complications, for example the player might not want to entertain negotiations whilst abroad, the clubs have to somehow arrange a medical, the national FAs have to allow the player to leave the training set up, and so on and so on. So yeah, if Onana was going to go, it would probably already need to have been agreed, and realistically it would have leaked by now (and/or he would've already moved on).

The proof of this being a rare thing can be seen if you look at the list of all the transfers in English football in summer 2021 - if you can find any big moves of a player who was at the EUROs, who then moved between the 11th of June and the 11th of July 2021 (EURO 2020 dates).

Yeah that's the logical answer, but if they're gonna punish any club for it it's probably going to be us

Well the Premier league have rules for transactions between clubs with the same owners and ultimately they will decide if market value has been adhered to.
