Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Turning a bit rubbish this window. Will probably swap DCL for Broja. Not sign a winger and not be able to shift the deadwood, meaning the team and squad is weaker than last season.
It’s not even July and we’ve signed two (third to be announced) and sold two with several officially OOC after tomorrow, that’s exciting by our usual standards

Very true.

Still only 22 though so on that same trail of thought - maybe some are too reactive/write people off too quick.

Do people not realise that we’re in a game of risk here? We can’t buy proven potential, or even exciting potential not proven. FFS there’s a reason he’s at Chelsea and they were quoting high prices to sell him. The only reason we’d have a prayer in signing him is because things haven’t turned out well for him. We’d have never bought Pienaar or Arteta with this logic.

No one without pedigree
No one who isn’t proven
No one who’s been injured or had a bad time
Simultaneously in our budget and big clubs don’t want them

Short list that

Agree completely.

For me, it's still all about consolidation and getting to Bramley Moore and giving new owners time to get us settled.

We can't afford to go backwards any more in that final third. We create as little, or score as few as the last few seasons and it dictates relegation scrap.

From the Athletic, it sounds like DCL himself scuppered the Newcastle deal over wages. Which could screw us in a number of ways if we needed that deal to go through.

No idea what he was looking for but maybe this will be a reality check for him on his value and maybe give him fresh perspective on our own offer.

“Minteh’s desire is to remain in the Premier League, with the player reluctant to move to French club Lyon, who Newcastle thought they had agreed a deal with. He was also set to go to Everton in return for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but negotiations fell apart after Newcastle and Calvert-Lewin were unable to agree terms.”

Thelwell is useless. Hopefully friedkin comes in and wipes the entire place clean.
1000% agree with the second bit, and he seems like the kind of guy who will do it. That's what I'm hoping for. Only then will we be able to move forward instead of being a rudderless, ambitionless outfit merely clinging on to Prem existence.

That's as much down to the manager as anyone else: we play 451 hoofball every week with a "striker" who is worth about half-dozen goals a season but plays every week. Hopefully the takeover goes through and the new guy brings in a manager/coaching team who actually want to play front foot attacking football and good recruitment people to facilitate it.
