Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

For ages people have said we should be giving youth a chance, look at what Lampard has done at Chelsea etc. Well now we actually have Lampard in place and we want to just keep throwing money around.

As we’ve seen with Gordon, the youth players actually want to play for us and would then be pure profit if they are sold. It has to be the way forward.

I’m sure we’ll make some signings before the window closes, but I’d much rather see Simms Dobbin Pryce Welch Branthwaite Onyango get squad minutes next season than us buying average players for decent fees.

….the difference is Chelsea have a very high standard of youth players, they invariably get to the latter stages of the FA Youth Cup & their youngsters are pursued by top clubs on loan deals.

Just saying ‘give youngsters a chance’ is a bit of a throwaway statement if our youngsters aren’t good enough to play. When we have a talented youngster they are given a chance. Not seeing many youngsters we release playing top flight football.

I reckon we'll bring in 5-6 mate and sy least 4 will be under 23

We’re already in a better position than last season (even though it doesn’t feel like it)

We spent the majority of last season without Mina and DCL. Both should start the new season fit.

Patterson didn’t contribute at all last season so will be added. Same pretty much for Dele if he is going to stay. We didn’t go into last season banking on Gordon at all, how much would he cost to buy this window? We’ve also added Tarkowski. Add in a settled Mykolenko who can play from day 1 now.

We’ve lost Richarlison yes but any sort of goal return from DCL in the teens makes up for that output considering he was missing last season.

People will disagree but I just think if the squad can stay reasonably fit it’s a better one than what was being put out for a lot of last season.

I must have imagined last season then when people were saying Dobbin and Simms were good enough and should have been playing.

You never know with kids until they’re thrown in. If Lampard isn’t at Chelsea then Mount James etc. don’t get the game time they had. Gordon might not have forced his way in at Everton if injuries hadn’t have given him a chance. He wasn’t making any waves at Preston.

Sometimes it’s sink or swim for some kids and there’s no other way. Branthwaite can play at this level, Gordon can, Dobbin looks like he can, Onyango might be a bit raw but he’s got the physicality for it. Give these kids places in the squad and then prioritise what budget we do have on a few very good players.

I don't get the weirdness around Dele staying. He's obviously in the plans or they wouldn't have him front and center in the publicity for the new kit.

Both started last season fit.

It's much more than goals that Richarlison brings. He leaves a big hole in the squad. Also puts a lot of pressure on DCL.

Big if that innit.

100%

I mean neither have missed an entire season before. Sure Mina has missed games, but DCL used to be fairly reliable. Are we really saying that for a second season in a row we’ll get nothing out of them at all? If the club really think this then they should sell both (although who would buy a player guaranteed to be injured for a whole season?)

Whoever we buy, if our best centreback and striker are missing fort he entire season then we are going to struggle. It’s the job of the medical department to keep players fit, not for the club to buy three or four cover players in positions because none of our players stay fit.

DCL wasn’t fit at the start of last season, he got the toe injury during the Euros so was on painkillers to get through the first 3 games then got the quad injury that wrecked his season

Especially with the 5 subs rule

No excuse not to blood the youngsters with that rule in place

Players that usually wouldn't have much opportunity can now get 10-15 minutes almost every week just by being brought on to keep other players fresh

As the pre season games start and players at other teams start to see their pecking order we'll start seeing some movement in and out I believe.

A few other teams going 'early' in the transfer market doesn't worry me, basically teams like west ham, Leeds and a few others will soon be spent out, giving us a clearer and cheaper run at various players.

Time to worry is when players we really need here start moving elsewhere, till now that's not the case at all really.

Lampard knows what he needs and so does Thelwell, pretty sure we will get those players in before the season starts now.
Skeptical, but love the optimism...
