Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

We’re already in a better position than last season (even though it doesn’t feel like it)

We spent the majority of last season without Mina and DCL. Both should start the new season fit.

Patterson didn’t contribute at all last season so will be added. Same pretty much for Dele if he is going to stay. We didn’t go into last season banking on Gordon at all, how much would he cost to buy this window? We’ve also added Tarkowski. Add in a settled Mykolenko who can play from day 1 now.

We’ve lost Richarlison yes but any sort of goal return from DCL in the teens makes up for that output considering he was missing last season.

People will disagree but I just think if the squad can stay reasonably fit it’s a better one than what was being put out for a lot of last season.
Absolutely agree...this squad is better.

Add that we are finally rid of Sigurdsson, Delph, Kenny, Tosun, and will hopefully sell Gomes, Davies, Rondon then that, without any further additions, gives me hope...

Sorry, I know where you're coming from here, but not for me

If we take where we were at the end of last season, we've lost our best player (arguably) and added a centre back - Ok, I think Tarkowski is a solid signing but I can't see how we can spin Richarlison being gone into us being in a better position now.

You're basing most of the optimism here on a squad staying fit - a squad which, in the past, has struggled to do this

I'll grant you that Patterson and Dele might end up seeming like new players, but equally as things stand that's a complete unknown - Patterson might not make the grade and Dele might be the same Dele who hasn't exactly shone for a couple of years.

It's a bit early to be getting worried about the state of the squad. Let's get to that point at the end of next month when the window shuts. For now though, if you asked Lampard how he felt about the state of the squad (and he was being honest), I doubt he'd be as optimistic as you given he said at the end of last season that we know if we don't improve the squad we could end up back where we finished last season

There is a strategy in place and that strategy is not to get mugged off by other clubs like in the past
The only problem with that is, this being Everton we'll wait until deadline day in the hope of some cut prices, but a lot of our priority targets will have already moved to new clubs, and we'll be left panic buying our X, Y & Z targets

Anyone a bit concerned yet? Seem to be missing out on targets and not putting up much of a fight

20 mill they’ve paid apparently. Is KLP better than Gray and Gordon (combined fee 1.5 mill?)

Decent young player but we literally produced one from our academy better than him just last season so why would we get into paying those types of fees.

Grays form dipped a fair bit in the 2nd half of the season, richarlison has gone so we need another - is it 20m? Id say at his age if he was to get 5/6 goals next season his value is 30-40 next summer, so id have paid 20 personally if we rate him

My hot take...

The priority this season isn't getting all kinds of new signings in - it's keeping the current squad of players fit & playing for most of the season.

This comes down to coaching & conditioning, more than anything. Far too often last season key players were in and out of the XI and you're always gonna run into trouble when that happens. Even the top sides would struggle without any sort of consistency in the personnel from week to week. The reds suffered from it the season before last.

As you say - if the likes of Pickford, DCL, Gordon, Dele, Gray, Mina (a bit of a stretch with him, but still), Doucs, Godfrey, Mykolenko et al can give us upwards of 35 sets of 90 minutes over the season then we'll already be better off.

Add Patterson & Tarkowski into the mix as well.

His recent injury history doesn’t look too bad…

There's no way that includes all of them. He sure missed more than 2 games, and was often subbed off with knocks

….the difference is Chelsea have a very high standard of youth players, they invariably get to the latter stages of the FA Youth Cup & their youngsters are pursued by top clubs on loan deals.

Just saying ‘give youngsters a chance’ is a bit of a throwaway statement if our youngsters aren’t good enough to play. When we have a talented youngster they are given a chance. Not seeing many youngsters we release playing top flight football.
That ban on getting youth players in for a few years really set us back.
We used to do ok in competitions up to then.
Saying that with city in the area offering all sorts to kids that join them it'd a struggle to attract the best talent locally anyway.
