You've compared the guy whose greatest attributes are his ability to find space in the attacking third and pose a goal scoring threat from midfield to Kante and it's me who isn't watching football.

Gallagher works hard but he's not a ball winner or even really a defensive midfielder at all. He's closer to Mount than Kante.

He is an absolutely classic box to box midfielder, he’s everywhere on the pitch, he isn’t a number 10 at all. He’s nothing like Mount, honest to god I don’t believe you’ve ever watched him play. You’ve just seen that he’s scored a few goals so think he must be playing in an advanced role.

No offence here mate as I respect you as a poster but there's no way at all that Gallagher can do the job that Kante does.
he's so utterly unique in what he does, at least unique to the point where no other player matches his consistency and downright visciousness harassing and winning the ball.
I realise Tuchel is a World Class coach and I'm just a meff on a laptop but it just isn't the case that Gallagher could step in for him and match Kante.

His profile of play actually reminds me of Lampard obviously not to that level. but just exceptionally versatile in the midfield, defensively sound, good on the ball and can score goals. Just a very well rounded player

Its a curious case. Obviously how and what is dictating Chelseas summer business is a bit of a mystery under their current predicament. That said the purging of the extensive loan list I wouldnt be surprised happening under the new owner. We could also be helped by the emergence of Gallagher which makes him the most viable returnee of the loanees. It's not an either or decision for them, but they might recoup some fees for Gilmour with more assurance in Gallagher especially if Tuchel envisions Conor a little more defensively as quotes suggests making them analogous.

But that aside Billy Gilmour is the exact profile we should be in the market for and arguable benefit of Lampard. A year ago this was one of the most celebrated young players in the world. That has taken a knock at Norwich, its also what makes him viable for us to sign. And the caveats are arguable both ways. He aligns with the age of our teams priorities. Scottish connections in the past and in the current squad is a bonus, along with a relationship with the manager. Attraction of younger players from academies and development potential was a huge justification for Lampard's hire. This is the kind of move that he should help to get across the line.
