Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

It’s difficult to feel optimistic for next season even if we stay up tbh.
We have a terrible squad, an inexperienced manager and would appear to be in a financial quagmire.

Any potential signing would surely rather join a West Ham, Wolves, Newcastle, Villa Leicester, arguably even a Crystal Palace. Never mind the top 6.

We can’t afford any more bad decisions.
Not wasting over half of the season with a manager our fan base detests who falls out with key players and had no desire to assert any form of control over any match we played would have been handy.

Add in a fraction more consistency with the players we have available, instead of forced chopping and changing week in/week out, and we’d be sitting far more comfortably.

Any level of competent squad building in the summer and it wouldn’t be too difficult to be back challenging in the top half of the table. (All reliant on actually staying in this division mind you)

With the 6 players who’s contracts are expiring, how many actually play and we would miss?

Delph, Kenny and Begovic?

So for all the expiring players we probably need 3 players in (who actually play or are capable of playing)

We would probably extend Begovic, maybe even Kenny?

DM is a problem area anyway, we need 2 players in that position. But until we sell some players that might be it.

If we sell the likes of; Mina, DCL, Richarlison, etc then I think we will get replacements, other than that I think we won’t be able to spend big.

It could be tempting to sign a DM like Grillitsch on a free, but not if he’s going to be on crazy wages.

Linked with Matvienko at Shakhtar for £10mil.

25 and 47 caps...left footed centre back who has obviously played next to Mykolenko for club and country.

This season is an anomaly. I expect to be safely mid table next year. The Premier league is full of poor teams.

Without wishing to sound like Zat we should get rid of as many players over 25 as possible and blood youngsters. They will be over the hill by the time we’re half decent.

We need 2 centre halves and 2 centre midfielders and the whole team will look completely different

The wage bill needs to be slashed ready for the new stadium and buying new players for then.

I think it is clear that Frank is going to prioritise a DM this summer as he has mentioned it’s a position we are short in that massively impacts our ability to play the way he likes.

Who he will go for in that position another matter but I think that will be the first priority.

I don’t think Mina deserves to be kept on based on injuries and I would also try and get rid of Keane as well.

If we can get in a 28 year old central defender who’s is experienced and a leader, he can play next to some of our other CB’s and I think they’d do well.

I hope we trust Mykolenko and Patterson next season so that would just leave us signing the CB and DM but then having to potentially replace one or both of DCL and Richy.

I’m not having that, we’re still a big club and have a big name as manager. I don’t think players think i won’t join 16th/17th place Everton but I will sign for 12th place villa or palace.

I'd say Villa are a much more attractive proposition for a player right now. Miles better squad, many would say a more proven manager with as big a name in football as ours, investing in new players. Players aren't stupid, virtually everyone on this forum is in agreement that we have a diabolical club right now so why would pro's see us any differently?

Totally agree. I am sure that from the outside our club has looked a complete joke this season with fans (rightly) protesting against the board, booing the players on regular occasions etc.

The Everton name and the Lampard name Might lead some players to overlook that but if you asked most players to choose between Villa and us in the summer, assuming salary is the same, I think they’d choose Villa sadly. That’s the problem we are in, we may need to offer slightly more in wages to entice some players and when we have done that in the past, we have got it wrong

Its just common sense...

I'd miss JJK like a hole in the head.

Utd will still sign players finishing 8th that maybe 4th palace Arsenal want. Different level but still the same thing
We haven't been a big club for years. Most professional players weren't even born the last time we won a trophy.

Wages and a relegation release clause will help us compete with clubs outside of Europe if we have the funds

Just let him leave. Not good enough even as back-up.
