If we’re actually bidding, it doesn’t make sense to try starting a bidding war with a Gulf State.

You won’t win. You’re basically testing what they’ll go to, and if he’d favour a move to us over them.

Signing players like Adams stretches opposition defences and gets us goals and points. Plus, he might actually sign for us. It's all very well trying to buy players for the future, which I agree with, but if you get relegated in the meantime that plan goes out of the window. Adams is a reasonable age, has a decent injury record, and gives us something we don't have. I'm not saying he's a dream signing, but he represents a realistic signing.

Represents a very poor, very unimaginative signing that will have all the fans up in arms as we are locked in a relegation battle wondering why we just can't score goals. And let's say we do avoid relegation this year after signing him, well then we'll be stuck with him, unable to move him on, his wages draining the club and unable to improve again.
