Looks a talent but no way worth more than 30 at the minute. He has 2 goals in 18, don’t know how many assists. Gordon has 3 in 20. Ok one was very lucky. But would you expect us to get 30 for Gordon

Comparison between Iwobi (3 PL seasons, 4008mins - 3 goals/3assists, 30m) Townsend (1st season, 1441mins 3 goals/2 assists, free transfer).
In terms of value the lesser 'pedigree' is ahead.
Added to that is Iwobi and his Arsenal predecessor have no idea how to defend. Only Richarlison (who does) and Gray should get that sort of liberty.
I reckon Richarlison, Gray and and in form DCL will get us the goals needed to avoid relegation and DVB and Ali will help to make that happen.
The rest need to be able to defend, needbtobgid rid of the defensive softies like Iwobi and Gomes if we're going to battle our way away from relegation.

I don’t for one minute think Iwobi is good enough. I just think Townsend contribution this season has been masked by lashing in a few cup goals, but he’s still more part of the problem than the solution.

I am sure we will be linked with anyone half decent from Chelsea who could be available in the Summer. I believe because of the new Fifa rules coming in about the number of players you can have out on loan, Chelsea may be more inclined to cash in on players. Fifas new rules come into affect in July, basically clubs can have 6 players over the age of 21 out on loan under the new rules. Chelsea currently have 22 players out on loan, 13 of them are over the age of 21 or will be at the start of next season.

If Chelsea are going to keep and loan any players it will be the better ones like Gallagher, Broja and Gilmour - all three id bite your hand off for. Loaning out is a huge part of their financial model and teams pay through the nose for their players, i think for the year Zouma was here we paid 7 mill - which is why i think it makes sense for them to keep their higher value ones like the three i mentioned.
Whilst true, and I do agree, if no one bids for their poorer players they will be stuck claiming wages and not being named in the squad. Their hand may be forced to some extent - they have a lot to shift

Would tend to agree but the more I've seen/thought about it, guys like Andros get 'drossed' too readily.
The transfers have been so poor for so long in not getting the types of player needed that players like him are easily dismissed of worth.
Take the hypothetical of being up 1-0 and we've dominated the game for 65 mins.

But the opposition start to get traction down their left and are still being a threat from the counter.
The manager and team need to know they can shut down the game and take the 1-0 with the opportunity to get more in another way.
Instead of asking Gray to defend more, thereby giving them more impetus, Townsend is probably the better and more experienced player to deal with this growing confidence from the opposition (he knows the defending lines better and when not overrun in midfield, works well with Seamus in this regard)
He's may not be as good as Gray but in this situation he is probably more valuable.
Richarlison defends his line and the whole team is more compact and stabilised, as long as the three midfielders hold, which they will be more likely of doing with Townsend. With Gordon having done his job you sub in Doucoure for him as well.
Townsend meanwhile also provides a good attacking threat in this type of set up, where on the second or third phase counter he can find the ball at the edge of the box and let rip. Arguably only Gray and Richarlison are currently better at shooting from the edges.
We also need squad players (ideally on a free) who can do these types of job, rather throwing money at ill conceived wet dreams.

Aren’t loan rules changing though.
I also think, things are changing with young players full stop. Maybe influence from agents, but Chelsea lost 3 youngsters in the summer, Gilmour has a year left, I’d be surprised if he resigned, talk of Chelsea going after rice or the young holding midfielder at Monaco.
Gallagher, has already broke into the England squad, will he want another loan? And will he want to be a big part at Chelsea and miss out on the World Cup.

Forward thinking clubs like Leicester would cash in on DCL in the summer for £65-75 millions and bring someone like Broja in leaving a few bob left over to bring in another 2-3 decent additions.
Im hoping this is the plan for us this summer. I honestly don’t see DCL being Lampards type of player.
