The most important signing for this summer in my opinion is someone who can play the role Delph was so good in, in the run of good performances at the end of the season.

It’s a simple role on paper, covering across midfield, winning and moving the ball around, not necessarily creating chances but that’s a bonus.

It’s no coincidence that our best performances coincided with Delph being fit and excelling in this role (he was MOTM for those few games).

With the right player our defence and midfield are transformed, as they aren’t exposed and the ball isn’t constantly wasted.

Spend any budget we have on bringing in a top player for this role.

Presumably that's the dilemma for both himself and prospective clubs. Pay cut to be a key player or stick around to play the occasional Pep Roulette.
Don't know what he's on, definitely not a top earner there but likely high enough alright
Check that...If this is to be believed he is on 20k per week and I'm stunned!

Edit: It also says Foden is on 12k per week and is 0 yrs old so I have my doubts lol

Must be especially wierd for him atm, his wife's Russian and both his parents and him moved there in 2014

No pal, Cancelo was signed as a RB to challenge Walker. Because Mendy was banged up left us short and he and Zinchenko have mostly deputised as a LB between them. It's a position we need to sign a specialist LB in and I'm hoping se sign Cucurella.

Zinchenko would strengthen you in 2/3 positions but given the chance would he want to give up winning trophies each season as a squad player or sign for Everton (or any other PL club) as a guaranteed starter watching us winning trophies? Bear in mind he's in the CL again next season, and he's settled and happy at City. Most of us really appreciate having a top quality player like him who never complains. I'd be gutted to lose him tbh.

Agreed. Not sure what his contact situation is, but either way I don't see much appeal to him in coming here. I think we should avoid pointless and drawn out sagas for players this summer, where we are rinsed on the fee. That's far more likely to occur if we are trying to sign existing PL players.

It feels like the sort of mistake we have made over recent years, targeting players from other PL sides who have long contracts and are key players for them. Essentially making every mistake going for me. Not that it can't work out, and he's a bad player, as hes good, but I don't see much sense in it. You have to overpay.

How many of you have seen Zinchenko in his favoured CM role on a consistent basis? I certainly haven't because he barely plays at club level.

Oh I know he was, but as chance would have it he is brilliant at LB...most of his assists come from there and he's quality moving infield. Cucurella looks quality too though tbf
I think you are right (about Zinc)...because ye are in everything too there are a lot of games to go round and he did play a fair bit last season, not sure how many games but saw him quite a bit even though he was clearly(and contentedly) not first choice
