Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Neither are my cup of tea either as we've been the team that takes Utd's cast offs for years. That said, I don't think either player is terrible and with the position we are in would you say they are better than what we have? I think so, just about.

AWB would be an upgrade at RB over an ageing Coleman and a clearly substandard JJK. Whilst Lingard would be a reasonable upgrade on Grey and Townsend.

Really it's how they approach a move. Are they looking for one final pay day or are they really looking to revive their career. If they want to prove their doubters wrong and have the right attitude then they'll do well. Half the game is player in your head.

Also, Utd fans don't know their arse from their elbow. The epitome of telly clappers.
my mate has been supporting them for 50yrs and knows his stuff to be fair . He will criticise a lot of his own players, we also have plenty of fans who still think Tom Davies will come good.

AWB is awful on the ball and would be an terrible option, not sure I could stomach watching him panicking in possession, we’ve spent money on a young exciting attacking full back. Just play Patterson.

I don’t think lingard is a winger, he’s more of a number 10 attacking midfielder. And we already have iwobi and dele, unless we sell one. I don’t see the point in signing him as well as the fact he’s nothing special, nearly 30 and would want big money

If we are planning on keeping JJK as the primary cover at LB, we are in a world of trouble if Mykolenko gets injured

Godfrey I'm guessing would also serve as backup for the role mate, a lot depends on who else comes in also as in do we bring in a player who can also cover as lb if needed etc.

Think what JJK provides is cover (bad) at multiple positions so an emergency bench filler

Just throwing this out there....without Richarlison, Mina or Allan:

Tarkowski Free
Lingard Free
Wan-Bissaka loan
Gallagher
Garner

Pickford
AWB Tarkowski Godfrey Myko
Garner Dele Gallagher
Gordon DCL Lingard

Patterson + AWB rotating for a season
Branthwaite learning from Tarkowski
Gallagher/Garner all action.
Mix of 4 skillsets up top.

Tarkowski £85k 3 years = £13.26mil
Lingard £120k 3 years = £18.72mil
AWB £70k 1 year = £3.64mil
Garner £10mil + £50k 5 years = £23mil
Gallagher £40mil + £100k 5 years = £66mil

Total for all 5 players with full contracts and fees paid up:

= £124.62mil

Off the books

Richarlison £70mil + £100k 2 years= £80.4mil
Mina £10mil + £120k 1 year £16.24mil
Allan £10mil + £80k 1 year = £14.16mil

= £110.8mil

Huge savings over 1-5 years
Good base to build on mid-long term
Blend of youth + experience

Are we linked with Garner?

Lingard would be a horrific signing - inconsistency, fair few knocks, pushing 30 and will want massive wages.

Sounds like the exact type that's caused us issues

We need experience, but the right type and character with it that also serves a role in the building process.

Tarkowski I can understand as he fills a huge gap at the back and brings the right attitude with him too.

We need a completely new midfield, the one we have is literally not suited fir any purpose and at best one or another may fit into a system with the right players around him.

Need energy, goals, creativity, the ability to provide defensive cover, and the ability to receive the ball and dictate play.

This is not gonna be easy. You're looking at likely three players to do this.

A Cheick Dacoure type, a Zinchenko and a Gallacher, at the very best we may be able to get two of that calibre, being very very optimistic about that too.

So question then becomes which is the most essential, which st the team currently can serve as a season stopgap I'm that role.

He also takes a place in the 25 man squad, which doesn't seem sensible to me

I really, really dislike the idea of having a player (either Godfrey or Kenny) who is a right footed specialist in a different position as the only back up to our left back area. You wouldn't go through a season with, I dunno, two centre backs in the whole squad and say other players can fill in there if needs be.

IMO we have Iwobi and Doucoure who can do the Gallagher role in your scenario, so the other positions are more critical for me.

That is an abysmal starting 11. 2 full backs that can’t attack, 2 CB’s that can’t pass a football, that midfield in a 433 lacks balance

As for the wage bill we need to be staying clear of cast offs from the Sky 6. Lingard is asking for more money than that and is nearly 30. AWB will also cost more than 70k a week
