meaning that in contractural terms they remain inside the protected period

What is this "protected period" which you speak of?

Richarlison also didnt sign "over 3 years ago"...

Gilmour's deal has been triggered by Chelsea's automatic option. Theres been no extension signed...its merely activating a previously agreed option.

Generally this is done by clubs to hold onto the player for one further year before selling or to increase their market value foe an immediate sale.

Richarlinson is an interesting one because Sportsrac( usually dependable ) dont show any contract extension even though it was heralded on the official Everton site.

All contracts in football have a end date of 30/6 irrespective of when they are signed. So his current deal has in effect completed 3 football years 2019/20-2020/21 & now 21/22

Under what is called Article 17 players under the age of 28 after completing 3 years can in effect just buy themselves out of their contract. Article 17 is more commonly known as the Webster Ruling. It doesn’t happen often although it’s rumoured that Lewandowski has either applied the Article or at least threatened to use it to get out of his Bayern contract . It’s really only ever used when players want something such as a transfer, a contract uplift or the like.

As for contract extensions any decent agent will have already agreed to pay rises when the original contract includes an option to extend in terms of FIFAs take on how automatic contract extensions move for the protected period I don’t know but any uplift in terms ( which I floated in my original post ) has to be registered at the FA as a new contract so the option that Chelsea triggered is more than likely to be on different terms to the one signed in 20/21 season which even then wasn’t signed 3 years ago

I readily acknowledge that it’s possible that Richarlison cant yet apply the ruling but come December it will be 3 years in calendar terms but that said you cant buy yourself out of a contract in such a manner mid season.

like some players from England, France, Italy etc etc then
Yes but a certain poster was a saying a lad whos just off the back of his first good season and is a similar age to richarlison is miles better and worth a 100mil. When he plays for one
Of the top teams in weaker league. As sancho, Werner and keita are proving

If Chelsea want to include players as part of the deal then certainly there are better options to choose from than at Spurs.
Broja, Gallagher and Gilmour to name three.
I touched on this in an earlier post.

I wouldn’t at all be surprised if a player did move from SB . The three players you mention are possibly loan options ( remembering of course the one player restriction ) but I doubt that any of them will be sold and add to that number Colwill who again I just can’t see being sold at this point in time.

I floated the name Ampadu and whilst you won’t want to even consider FL rated Ross B . There are other possibilities such Loftus Cheek or Hudson Odi but all are under contract and they might not fancy the gig

At the end of the day if I were the agent of Richarlison I would tell him to sit tight

Sorry but thats a load of nonsense.

You say Sportrac are "usually dependable".

Thats madness mate...theyre so far off its insane. For years people have quoted their figures which have been way off.

The ruling you mention e.g Webster ruling wont be used by Richarlison or any of those Chelsea players lol

"Protected" ?

What a stretch...

Struggling to get my head around this but I take your word for it. But having two years left on his contract https://www.evertonfc.com/news/1513894/richarlison-signs-new-everton-deal (see this news piece about his extension in 2019 stating his new contract finishes in 2024) still means he has more value than one year, still think he will be sold for 60m+ this summer.

If we are to sell Richy this summer then I think our best case scenario might be to sell him for £35m and then get a couple of players from the selling club. My understanding is that whenever players are swapped as part of a deal, the clubs assign values to the players themselves

As such, in theory we could get £35m in cash plus Gallagher and Broja with each of those two players being valued at £2m each for the sake of the deal.

This would mean that on paper the sale of Richy would be £39m and Watford don’t get their 10% cut.

It sounds harsh but we are in a situation where every penny counts and if we can manipulate the terms of the deal to ‘look’ favourable to us then we should

I think you've just described a conspiracy to defraud ( both Watford and the tax man ) .

Not sure that can happen because of player book values. I guess, at a stretch, it might work with both of the lads in your example being Chelsea academy products- but I wouldn't bank on it.

A more likely way it could work is if we sell Richie to them for around our £65 mill asking price, we then buy Broja from them for say £20 m and we agree to loan Gallagher from them with an obligation to buy. Think something like that set-up is more likely and would benefit us and them.

Struggling to get my head around this but I take your word for it. If you read my post I make mention of the Everton article. My reference to Article 17 was because I was asked to explain protected period in the context of player contracts

Despite the reluctance to acknowledge Sportsrac they are as good a source as any.

Of course Richarlison has value but that will only be determined by the market and that market shrinks if a player is stating where he will or won’t go.
