People really do allow themselves to get thoroughly carried away where Marcel Brands is concerned.

This is the same idiot that couldn't come up with a single midfielder for Ancelotti except Abdoulaye Doucoure, 18 months after a previous Everton manager asked Brands to sign him.

The bloke is an absolute clown and he probably won't work as a DoF again in his career because he clearly doesn't know anything about identifying players.

Morgan Gibbs-White - 11 goals 9 assists. 22 years old likely still won't get in the Wolves midfield this season, valued at 30 million with 2 years left on contract.

Anything more than 15 million overall is a joke.

Teams can smell our desperation plus recent history shows we gladly overpay.

He didn't understand what kind of players you need in the EPL. He targetted skill over mobility and physicality. He will do fine again Holland

Brands has always had his fanboys (I used to be one until it slowly dawned on me after the second summer transfer window that he didn't have a clue). People still make excuses for him, the main one being that he was never allowed to do his job. An excuse curiously never afforded to his predecessor Steve Walsh, who apparently had complete autonomy over transfer business despite not having a seat at Boardroom level like Brands did and being paid considerably less than Brands was.

He looks good in a suit though, so he'll always win favour with the easily impressed.

So in the chasm of time between being turned down by Watford the first time and getting him when we did, you don't think it would have been prudent to perhaps having a little look elsewhere? If we needed a midfielder of Docoure's apparent ability when we did (Silva's first season) and we needed the same type of midfielder in Carlo's first summer, what the hell was this idiot doing not bringing somebody else in in the meantime?! Was Doucoure the only player on earth who could we were allowed to sign or something.

The facts that Doucoure is crap, not the right age profile we should have been looking at and not the right position we should have been looking for are all further points of evidence that truly show Brands in the pathetic light he deserves to be shown in.

He bought players of every shape and size during his 3 and half years here, and with very few exceptions they're all terrible. He's exactly the same as Steve Walsh, an idiot who got a job that was well beyond his capacity, capability and competency.

He'll do 'fine' again in Holland because it's as alehouse of a league as you could possibly wish to find and in PSV's world if they have an absolutely cataclysmic season the worst they'll do is 2nd or 3rd. At Everton, if you encounter disaster you can get relegated.

Well it’s only 4 weeks until the start of the season and seen as it takes us about 3 weeks to bid for a player after being interested, we might have 1 new player on loan for the Chelsea game, who won’t be able to play as the loan player will probably be from Chelsea anyway ?

What this also shows is we have an awful scouting set up. I hate that I'm going to say this but that lot do seem to pick up players at this kind of money and move em on if not good enough for decent profits, we only seem to be able to do it the other way round.
