Player Valuation: £40m
It looks like Marseille could save us from a potential Coutinho nightmare. I'm reading they want to make him a "landmark" signing. Ta, lads!

How is saying "we should have gone after a young player in a position we NEED to reinforce with a really low release clause who won YPOTY in the EFL" scattergun? It's what we should be doing all along. Olise fits the profile of player we should be targeting. Young with great potential and most likely to go up in value and low wages. And if he doesn't, it's not a huge hit to us.When you look at how we applied a scattergun approach to signings over the last few seasons and how that worked out yet some on here want to do exactly the same again.
No-one really counts Iwobi as a player at this point. Not even Brands.surely solitaire is a one player game?

Olise could be awful, yes.Not a lot in the forum surprises me anymore but the fume over not getting Olise is amazing.
Lads. He could be awful.
Everyone cryarsing that we don’t gamble enough on Champo players. 3 teams a season come up FULL of Champo players and typically don’t do well.
The MAJORITY of players a level or more down are there for a reason. The MAJORITY of lower league signings by PL teams don’t set the world alight.
For every Stones there’s a Holgate (and that’s quite generous - I could have said Gibson). For every Cahill there’s a Bowler, Adeniran, etc.
Just relax.
Missed a pen in a penalty shoot out must mean he's a crap defender then, what am I thinking ffs. has a few niggles yes, hence the keep him fit part, unreliable, when fit is he really unreliable?
Not surprised we haven`t signed anyone yet, we all know we will be waiting till deadline day to sign some cast off.
Really the board should be splashing the cash to sign good players to appease fans after the aberration to appoint RB.
EverybodyWho aren't we signing today lads
I understand the point you're making but I think the days of "at worst we'll make a profit" are behind us now. Look at the fume over Kean and how difficult it is to get the world's richest club to give us more than we paid.Olise could be awful, yes.
But statistically he was one of the five or six standout players in the Championship last season, and he was available for £8m. Buendia and Aarons, in comparison, will cost upwards of £30m each and are both older.
Olise was a low-risk gamble because his price was low and he is still only 19. The fume is not based on the fact he IS a great player - we've no way of knowing yet if he will be. The fume is based on missing the opportunity for a low-risk gamble that had the potential to be a high-reward outcome in a position of need. At worst we could have recycled him in two years' time for a profit, like we did with Lookman and Vlasic.
We make that type of excuse before every season don't we?I think the Euros and Copa America are getting in the way with a lot of clubs.
I think as well our transfers depend on the James and Richarlison situation.
Yes, all true.Been one of the standout players at Copa and we want rid. I'd rather we keep the boy fit he's our best defender.
I ask again - And I genuinely don't know, so pipe me down with facts by all means:How is saying "we should have gone after a young player in a position we NEED to reinforce with a really low release clause who won YPOTY in the EFL" scattergun? It's what we should be doing all along. Olise fits the profile of player we should be targeting. Young with great potential and most likely to go up in value and low wages. What am I thinking, it's madness. Let's get Isco and Coutinho instead.
I genuinely wouldn't be against Coutinho. He's proven in this league and was at a point one of the best players we had playing here.
If James does leave, bringing him in on a loan or short term contract wouldn't be the worst business IF he still had the motivation and drive (seems playing in Spain sucks the life out of a lot of talented players).
Revisionism F.CIf Holgate was going to be good enough he'd have shown it by now.
He isn't.
I don't deny he has niggly injuries, keeping him fit is the main thing because he is good in my opinion. Do tall players suffer more niggles or am I talking bollocks again?Yes, all true.
But how often is he fit? How many games a year does he actually play?
It's a value for money issue - does he play enough minutes for us to warrant his salary? I don't think he's made 35 appearances in a season for us yet, has he?
