Everton Summer transfers 2021

He'd probably suit their system and the pace of Serie A, tbf

I hope to God they move him on.

If he stays, I'll be behind him but I just see absolutely nothing to suggest he will ever be better than what he is right now for us. If we can get £15m back, which is doable still, and his £60-70k weekly wage off the books, then it frees us up without us losing anything when it comes to shear numbers of goals/assists or quality chances created.

Whereas if we - like we probably will - move James on, we lose a player who, if played right (and not in a stagnant 4-2-3-1), scores and creates quality chances at a volume none of our other players bar Digne (who is all crossing) come close to.
James is not fit and dosent look remotely arsed.
I think he’s great, but that’s what I’ve seen so far pre season.
Considering he left early to prove his fitness for the Copa as well, that’s odd.

Hope a full house on Saturday gets him motivated and show us what he’s got though.

Holgate: Brighton
Iwobi: Atalanta
Gomes: Benfica
Delph: Anywhere
Kenny: Anywhere
Tosun: Turkey

If we could move them on id be very happy.

Bring in Aarons and McNeil (two 21 year old England U21 players) and we will have had a great window.

Then we need a centre mid.

My guess is that only Kenny leaves for sure out of those 6. Would be great to shift them all but just can't see all of that coming off.

Agree with Iwobi being booted mate but its pointless arguing to keep a player on the basis of another formation which Benitez wont be playing.

Its clear he's a 4231 man so if James doesn't suit it / the counter attack system then he's another who needs moving on regardless of talent. He suits possession based teams who have 60%+ possession every week on the front foot in a 433 system - we'll be neither of that so its a question of is 140k+ wages of his and his injury record more of a hindrance in that scenario.

You'll say no as you like him but I cant see what he brings to the table in a 4231 with 45% possession most weeks needing to work hard off the ball.

Maybe not the most popular opinion, but I wouldn't sell Holgate cheap. He's 24, his contract is through 2025 and he's on a reasonable wage. Yes, he made mistakes last season, but has (some) potential and is capable of playing anywhere on defense if needed. I don’t think he's useless, just needs to be more focused.
Half the people calling him now were praising him 12 months ago.

James needs to get himself fit before he can start games. Yes it's been pre-season, but he's clearly not fit.

He also can only play if we have a 3 man midfield behind him. We need to build a system without him and just drop him in for the games he will enhance the team. He can't and shouldn't play every week because there are games where it doesn't suit him.

We needed to find a replacement, whether he stayed or not.

I think he has the same fitness levels as he always has and that won't change. I probably think the rest of the team look a bit fitter and that is showing it up more, although that didn't stop us getting absolutely legged the other day, did it.

A half-arsed James is still better than most of our other players playing at full tilt, though yes I acknowledge we can't afford a passenger. That being said, our manager should be making sure he isn't a passenger, not playing an ill-fitting system that suits nobody but Andros Townsend.

Exactly right on all counts mate.

I am baffled why RB wants to go 4-2-3-1 when our players just don't suit it at all.

We can even play 4-3-3 with Coleman, the issue is him staying fit which is why we need that athletic right-back.

4-2-3-1 exposes all of our weaknesses and doesn't play to any of our strengths.

Don't know if I've said it before, but I absolutely hate 4231.

Every manager we've had has tried to play it and every one of them has failed. Try something different please.

Good luck moving them on. Can't see any of them bar maybe Holgate having decent bids made for them.

Iwobi - will cost Atalanta too much
Gomes - Wages MASSIVE issue
Delph - last year of deal people will just wait
Kenny - Might get a couple million but I doubt it
Tosun - Injured until November going nowhere
