4-2-3-1 doesn't suit any of our players mate

I dont think any formation suits our players mate lol

I think if you get the right players in then it could work - I like Richarlison in the 4231 he looked very good under Silva in it, DCL will suit it more than the two up top - the big one is the midfield which is why for me we need a Gana type alongside Allan/Gbamin with Doucoure pushed further forward into the no10 role like he played at Watford and given free reign to burst forward into the box.

Don't know if I've said it before, but I absolutely hate 4231.

Every manager we've had has tried to play it and every one of them has failed. Try something different please.

4-3-3 gets the best out of our best players.

It doesn't even have to be some ultra-attacking system.

Davies should be in it because he is, right now, the only player we have who likes to get on the ball from the defence and just stay positioned central. Let Allan/Doucoure/Gbamin go and push on and do what they want to do and hassle, cause the first two certainly cannot play together in a two.

James right but we do need another option, whether he stays or goes. Richarlison and Gray for the left.

It's why a right-back - as you've been saying for ages too - should have been one of our top priorities. I'm sure it was, but the fact is we're heading into the season without one who is up to standard. And it's a disgrace.

The one way 4-2-3-1 works with our team is Doucoure pushed on, but in that sense it might as well start as the flat three anyway as that's what it'd turn into without the ball.

Said it before on James, as much as I love him, he ain't cut out to play central in the Prem. It's too quick and physical in midfield and I reckon that makes him look unfitter than he actually is.

Think back to how much space he was able to find when playing off the right last season, and I know we have to think back far because for some reason CA never went back to it even when the chance presented itself.

If you play doucoure in the 10 role, the formation will just revert to a 4-3-3. I like that though, if we could have someone with dacoure work rate but better creativity would be ideal. But that’s would be very difficult to find with our budget.

don’t think Hamez doesn’t do enough off the ball and leaves vulnerable defensively

4-2-3-1 is a very effective formation, it can be a 4-5-1 when defending and a 4-3-3 when attacking. Push the CAM on and it can be a 4-4-2, You can change to a 1 holding and 2 CMs easily without changing personnel. I don`t think the formation or system is the issue, more the players in that system.

For the 4-2-3-1 to be successful you need to have a top quality CAM which we have never had until now IF James is used in that role and isn`t gone by the end of the month.

Even that is one bad bad team.

Well, I think if you drop a right-back in (I know, I know) and then have Richarlison coming back, then a midfield three out of Allan/Doucoure/Gbamin/Davies (let's see what happens with Gomes but hopefully another ball carrier to come in) is definitely not too bad. Delph needs punting as far into the ever-expanding universe as possible.

Richarlison's best position is left forward, and you get the best out of James by giving him freedom to drift and not be bogged down by big central midfielders.

It should be the template we're working from imo.
