Everton Summer transfers 2021

Serious question. He who shall not be named.........if let go,will it free up our spending power slightly ??

you would hope so. He’s on a lot of money. He’s in the last year of his contract so at £45m I’m not sure what the book value on him would be. Have never sat down and worked out how it all works. Shocking to think of what we’re spending money on atm

My understanding on how its calculated is its the total value of the deal on the books, so factors in annual wage and transfer fee divided over the length of the contract. So if a players weekly wage is say £120,000pw, over the life of 5 year contract, those numbers would be £6.24m x 5 = £32.2m, plus the transfer fee (£45m + £32.2m, total value =£77.2m) divided over the life of the contract, so £15.4m per year. I'm not entirely sure how it would work with an aging player whose value would likely depreciate over time, I'm sure there would be something factored in.

In simple terms though if we cancelled his contract, and were able to not pay the £6m annual salary, we would still be paying £9m that is left to pay, and seen as we would have zero chance of selling him, let alone for £9m+, we would be at a considerable loss.

It does make you wonder if any of this is factored in to our curent financial restraints. It certainly can't help. It would also explain why we are possibly trying to sell James to balance the books.

Globally that may be true but indulging him or any other player sends the wrong message to the rest of the squad who lets be honest dont need much excuse to not put in 100% effort.

There is also reason why at 30 he is playing for mid table Everton and not a CL club and whilst injuries are one reason his mentality is certainly another.

We've been taken for a ride as a fanbase for too long by disinterested players we need a rebuild/reset and that starts with players like James, Siggurdsson, Kean, Gomes, Delph, Iwobi - players with attitudes above their station legged out the club regardless of talent.

What I loved during the Moyes days was you knew he was the boss and if he wanted a player gone doesn't matter how good he was you knew it was for the good of the club/squad - I dont get that feeling anymore this squad decides when and where it wants to turn up and that has to change.
Bit revisionism there mate!

Saha? Brilliant, but would be slaughtered now for picking and choosing when he could play!

Fellaini? Again brilliant, but loved an international break were he would be commenting on wanting that big move!

James is not the problem! The other guys you mention are!

He is miles above anything we have ability wise and if our surrounding players were better/less fannys, than we would get the best out of him.
Its like putting an F1 driver in a vauxhall corsa

Why then did Bayern not keep James or why did Madrid let him go on a free and now with his greatest fan as manager why are they not buying him back?

I agree in principle but if memory serves me correctly Bayern wanted to keep James but he didn't want to stay.
Something to do with wearing lederhosen I think....it does chaff I've been told.

Yes, Bayern wanted to keep James and instead he asked them not to bid for him...thus he returned to Madrid.
