Everton Summer transfers 2021

I'm not a scout so I don't know the cheaper options in France or Italy we could find but sure. Ultimately it's attributes we need ideally we need two different types of midfielder this window powerful box to box and creativity and cutting edge. We will probably be only be able to afford one depending on departures. I think Doucoure could do the box to box role if we had more strength and defensive ability behind him.
Doucoure does very little between the boxes so I'd be looking to get him out of the XI if we can find someone

Sorry I completely disagree. I believe he has been told to sit most of the time and he has shown he can get up and down all day if required we will miss him badly in the run in.
He can get up and down. It's just that he doesn't really impact the ball while he's doing it.

He’s not a ball carrier but he does get us up the pitch, even with his off ball work, pressing, and runs into the box. Those types of things push the opposition back even if you don’t see it as a result of him running with the ball for 30 yards.

It helps, but we aren't hard to play through. I just think we can find more. I honestly thought we could find more when we signed him.

Originally floated Neves from wolves as an option but I feel someone in the mold of James Ward-Prowse or actually him would be ideal. Defensively adept, quality set piece taker, able to carry the ball down the pitch , pick sharp passes and brandishes an attacking threat. True box to box midfielder that can actually score. Fits the profile of what we need in my mind.
Whilst it's certainly true that Ward-Prowse would be an upgrade on Delph / Gomes / Bernard / Iwobi, I'd suggest that we shouldn't be looking to find someone better than the dross... (Stay with me, I'm going to explain it).

I think we should be looking to bring in a CM who is better than EVERY other option we currently have, including Allan and Doucouré (both of whom I love). The reason for this is simple: if we only upgrade on the lesser players, then one of Allan or Doucouré remains our "best" midfielder and, as good as they both are, they both have limitations. This means our midfield overall improves only a little bit, and puts pressure on Gbamin to come back and be very good (in order to slowly take over from Allan, who is already 30).

If, however, we bring in someone that makes every fan go "Wow. Yep, that's our number 1 best starting midfielder, no question." then we have a little of the pressure taken away from Allan and Doucouré and the option to rest one of them periodically whilst the other plays alongside the new star. It also allows time for Davies and Gbamin to push each other to develop and establish which of them will be pushing Allan and Doucouré for the 3rd slot in midfield.

It's time to bin Delph and give the #8 shirt to someone worthy of it. Bruno Guimaraes maybe, or Franck Kessié?

Everton wingers this season (open play): Richarlison (wing only) 1 goals 3 assists Bernard: 1 goal 0 assist Iwobi: 1 goal 2 assists Rodríguez: 5 goals 4 assists

Yes I agree and have thought the same, we need a first choice.

We don’t need Harrison Reed or Armstrong from Southampton. 2 names in seen on Twitter,
That apparently would be decent buys. You’d still think moyes & kenwright run the club, in some fans eyes.

I like Locatelli. Can do a bit of everything and I think he would handle the premier league easily.

He's the top scorer of our centre kids, three goals I think and for a team that doesn't score a lot of goals, especially from midfield.
Yes he's genuinely good at making an impact in the final third for his position. My issue is his main job is still the middle third and I don't think he's good enough there.

Valid point but as much as I rate Allan and Doucoure, for someone to distinguish themselves as the definitive midfielder would just require an individual who can complete a forward pass and carry the ball consistently. For as much as we invested it's perplexing that we lack those basic attributes in midfield.

Yep. The way we've played this season just makes me think we got our midfield buys totally wrong last summer. We theoretically improved the midfield but our performances have hardly been any different in there truth be told. I feel like Allan would have been a good 'final piece of the jigsaw' but maybe we've tried to run before we could walk. If the only way we can play is to sit deep and try and nick a goal from a set piece then I don't know why we didn't just get a Lee Carsley type to sit in front of the back 4 and break things up. Could have saved ourselves a fortune and had a player who actually suited the set up.
