I think we will find out. But as I pointed out last time he came up, Barkley was the last attacker we had get as many assists as he did last year in a league season. He'd improve us, I'm not sure how much but my guess is a lot.
Hes very short-sighted to look to improve on the players we have.

In the wide areas we could stick a cone out there and it would improve on Iwobi and Bernie.

I get that, but I'm not even being shortsighted with my praise for him. There is a lot to like about the way he can move the ball and so long as he can be a reasonable player around the box like he's been in the championship this year he's got a chance to be a pretty high level player. He works hard and he wants the ball too. As far as James backup plans go I've yet to see a better one.

My concern would be he went AWOL last time he played in this league.

But its all moot, we 100% wont be signing him.

I mean your history on Buendia isn't so great and doesn't go any further back than Jan 2020... sounds like you've just hit the bandwagon.

I disagree with that characterization of it. He did a lot for them but they weren't good as a whole. It's why I only like him and not any of the other players.

I was out on Buendia until I really looked into him over the summer and changed my mind.

Beundia, Iwobi, Lookman, and Ziyech. All are show pony type players, he just wants to watch kamikaze football like some sort of computer game imo

The lack of mobility when Doucoure is out is a big issue (i'm not sure Allan is all that mobile) but the balance has been wrong when they've both played too, that's what i'm getting at. Neither of them seems to have the discipline to just sit and cover, we conceded loads of goals at the start of the season where midfielders ran on to balls pulled back to the edge of the box, because had nobody had seen the danger or tracked the run. We were overrun in midfield against Burnley, Southampton, Leeds etc earlier in the season when both Allan and Doucoure were in the side. It's difficult to know whether its the tactics or the players, but I reckon there's only been 1 or 2 games this season where you'd say we controlled the midfield; that's really disappointing after spending £50m to upgrade there in the summer.
Maybe but it's difficult to say as both haven't played together for months so it's hard to judge. I would say in most of the first ten games we had a measure of control also in some other games such as Leicester away we contained them its not always possessing the ball. But yes of late we have been diabolical at home withh one or other out. Thing is midfield isn't just two players its the whole team and the wings and full backs making runs and offering outlets and whilst you may be right neither is a genuine DM as a pair they are decent, our issue is two fold lacking pace and physicality on the wings to relieve pressure and take us up the field. And a lack of mobility and control in the third midfielder whether that's a proper DM or another box to box player who can actually get back unlike Gomes. When James or Sig plays we are compensating for their lack of coverage too whether that's right wing or at ten. We would be better just playing a genuine 433 with Allan/Doucoure and another box to box player with more guile. And buying a genuine right back who can attack and get up and down with pace and a right sided forwarded who offers pace. We have a side that lacks runners Doucoure is a runner, Davies and Allan do a bit of it the rest do not.
