That’s not a midfield that really works though and siggurdsson is totally different player. So I’m not sure why he’s in the conversation

McCarthy was excellent for a season. You can’t try and tell me that Gomes or Davies are as good. He was our best player in a team that finished with 72 points.

That McCarthy would easily be the best midfielder we’ve had since Arteta - but we only got it for a season really. Poor to middling after that.

We are talking peak McCarthy, I don’t think there would be much in it. During that season people were thinking he was an upgrade on Fellaini.

After that season, then absolutely fair enough.

Yeah I think McCarthy was certainly in the debate for player of the year. Not much in it.

Gana is still massively under appreciated for how good he was/is.

The memory of McCarthy was soured by his subsequent injuries and decline.
