Everton Summer transfers 2021

I think another reason is the concerns the top clubs might seem to legitimately have about our set-up, right from academy level, to the U-23s, to the first team squad.

I heard Niall Quinn speaking in a radio interview not long ago where he was making the point (not about us) but in general, that certain clubs will practically be a no-go now as far as sending players on loan etc, if there are concerns about player development and the overall structure at the club pitching for them, and that clubs have shortlists regarding other "problem" teams in this respect. They want to increase or maintain the value of their player obviously. I guess that should always have been the case, but he suggested it was being scruntinised much more onerously than before.

That seems very credible to me, and may be an unfortunate side effect regarding our continued regression under Brands.

There’s also probably something about getting them first team football. Lukaku for example was obviously going to play under us therefore the initial loan was a good thing for all three parties. If Mourinho hadn’t have been there then Chelsea may well have wanted Lukaku back. Every single Everton manager plays Coleman every single game regardless of how awful he is playing so why would any young right back swap a top clubs bench for our bench. Especially when they’ve seen how little Nkonkou has played. There’s also Kenny still lingering around with our overly sentimental ‘one of our own’ mindset still rife at the club. No young right back would want to join that situation over the one at Southampton ‘you’ll be first choice every week’.

We cant really mate. Look at what we spent so far on two PL battle hardened players: £1.5M....and Eddie Munster wants £10M or £15M for a kid who he wont put in his first team!!!

Let's move on.
Thing is we whinge endlessly about how other clubs manage to pick up all this young unknown talent that either blossom into top players or get snapped up by the big boys. They all come from "farmers leagues" so no risk,no reward. What will 5m get you in today's market other than potential?

Obviously we wont do this...

But what happens if we (or anyone else) throw in a £10mil offer to Southampton?

They double their money and lets say for arguments sake the player wants to join.

That £25mil clause wouldnt apply to the new club.
You are an absolute genius sir.
Obviously it would depend on the wording of the contract but if this was a s worded along the lines of " Chelsea receive 50% of any fee over £25 m for the sale of the player " this would work entirely in defeating any sell on to Chelsea.
However these clauses usually refer a % of any profit made by the selling club , so 50 % of any fee over £5 m goes to Chelsea.
Anyway why would Southampton want to sell him for less than he's worth?
