Are you saying that if they sell him the buy-back clause is cancelled? I really doubt that's how it works.
Well I think the buy back effectively gives them the option if you sell the player im not sure his a club who owned him the employer before last can place demands on any contract at his latest employer .

Otherwise where does it end ,in 8 years Chelsea still have a £25m but back option when he’s moved 6 times ? There deal is with Southampton , I can’t see how it rolls on .

Cunha's a kind of second striker.

In terms of money, I'd imagine so, as Atleti have already spent on De Paul too. But if they sell Saul, then James could be an option for them.

I'd rather us keep James, like.

Id actually prefer Cunha to James :o

He'd be very effective holding the ball up in this Benitez team and I think he would allow others to play to their strengths.

For the £5mil weve bid for Patterson, it could mean £25mil deal for Cunha (on a 5 year contract).

Hopefully we have some outgoings and can get both...

99% sure he will go to Atletico though lol

You are correct it probably won’t buy much end product.

We have needed a right back for about three years. The situation was absolutely desperate last year. So to see the solution being an untried right back from the scottish league, I’m a little nervous.

I like the fact that people think he has potential so in that sense it’s good.

My problem is that when Coleman inevitably gets injured, will we use him or will it be back to Holgate. My suspicion is that it will be Holgate and we are no better off than last season.

Im happy to be proved wrong, but going on recent history, managers use experienced players over rookies every time. Nkounkou has barely played, and didn’t get a chance when Digne was injured. We seem to have gone from Dumphries who would have been a starter to a player who probably wont be ready for at least a season.

Who knows, Maybe Benitez will take a different view and give him a chance. At least we are looking at a player for a position that needs attention.

Let’s wait and see.

Hes not 'untried' though? Hes played for Rangers and has 2 caps at 19.

Look at the other 19 year olds in the league who have made a big impact.

Cunha has come out of nowhere but I'd be over the moon with him, the type of forward who can free up Richy and Dom to score loads of goals, and he fights for every ball. A real offensive dynamo who can do just about everything. Still doubt we get him but it would be a massive coup.

Yes, it would actually be a masterstroke.

You are quite correct. The concept of privity of contract would prevent Chelsea tying the hands of any club buying the player from Southampton.
The only " equivalent " is where you buy a piece of land subject to certain restrictions ( easements ) which give the original seller rights over the land which can be enforced by the original seller even though he or she are not a party to the second contract.
However this is only amicable in Land law.
I suppose that technically 3rd party ownership would be a way around this but my understanding is that such arrangements are prohibited.

Yeah I meant exactly that, privity innit :D

Id actually prefer Cunha to James

Yes, it would actually be a masterstroke.
Cunha and Richarlison played very well together in the Olympics.
However, and I haven't watched him at Hertha , he looked more of a 2nd central striker rather than a wide player to me.

Says alot when you go cap in hand to rangers for a second choice right back trying to pay less than you are asking for a celtic flop

Fun few days ahead

I'll be honest I've never even heard of the kid, but as their first choice RB is also their captain and one of the better players it's not really a suprise this kid is second choice
