Everton Summer transfers 2021

Brands was touted as the experienced, steady DOF with a track record of sustained profitability in transfer dealings, a network of contacts, and know-how with regard to scouting, talent spotting and development.

We fell into the trap of recruiting him based on prowess in a distinctly middle of the road, average league environment. If he had done it in Holland + France for example, that might have been something.

I always felt Walsh was in over his head immediately and never felt comfortable in the role. He never worked as a DOF previously.

Brands on the other hand, is or was adept at self promotion which has now fallen spectacularly flat. For me, he has been the much more glaring failure of the two.

I understnd your logic to improve the team in 4 areas depends on quality of players we can afford in fees and wages. Far too simplistic to say we can improve. Last thing we want is more over rated deadwood that we will be stuck with for yonks, like Tosun and Siggy.
Couldn't agree more. But there are bargains to be had out there for good players who aren't quite top notch. A lot of clubs are struggling and need to sell.

Aston Villa may have lost their best player, but they can only play him once. They have bought 3 quality players with money left over, and now have a better squad than they had before. They possibly paid over the odds for the 2 they bought from Premier clubs, because they're not in such a pickle. But some European clubs are and if they had a decent scouting system could have got similar quality for £10m less per player. Like they did with Bailey.

Genuinely all of this was said about us in 2017.

How many clubs must be saying exactly the same thing Zat?

Too late in the window now but that's a good argument for selling Richy. Villa did exactly the right thing with Grealish I think.

Would try to get Richarlison on a longer deal :)

I think we should have sold Keane last summer or January while he was in the England squad.

He, and a couple of others for £10-20mil would have set us up nicely this window...

You would rahter he had not come and it would have still been BK and the Doctor?
absolutely not but what essentially has changed, in spite of all the hundreds of millions pumped in?

What I want is him to use his well documented business success and intelligence and apply that logic to running Everton. Leave his Toy Set mentality at the doors and let the business be successful by making the right decisions at present he has achieved nothing.

I really hope we can get RB / CM in at a minimum. Would also have to replace Kean if he leaves.

Kenny / James / Kean look most likely to go, if we could add Gomes to that it would be great.

I would be very surprised if Delph or Davies went.

I still think we have a decent enough starting XI with a bit of managerial competence and organisation.

We have literally nothing below that though.

That's what makes for a long, hard season regardless of welcome early enthusiasm and four decent points.
would also have to replace James if he leaves. And i dont see Kean leading the line even if he stays. So a more expierenced back up striker needed as well,.

It seems we will lose the competition of signing Correa. I agree we should not sign anybody who doesnt want to play for us. However, it is so embrassed for us to lose the target once again to Inter.

I don't know if this is tongue in cheek or what!

There is a long list of things Brands should be doing or should have done, but he took over an absolute mess!
We have barely had any sort of sellible assets over his time because of the Walsh era and the small ones we might of had we cant sell now as there is no value in the market!

There is also the obvious glaringness of other bits butting in, not necessarily just in terms of who we get in as manager, but do you genuinely think Unsie would be in a job if he wisent a top blue!

AZ & PSV both took time......... and things like FFP & Covid have definitely slowed that down for us!

Martinez tried to get us to recognize our place in the pecking order and get back there.

He was not part of any loss of status.

The man who enjoyed autopiloting David Moyes' team to the next level in their continuing trajectory, then nosedived the club into the bottom half.
