Theyve bought well but Grealish feels a big loss to me. If the Watford game is evidence I'd still say they have a bit to go.
Grealish is a massive loss, but they have added some quality. Eggs now not all in one basket.

To be fair, they have accepted his input can’t be replaced with a single player and upgraded some other positions. Their business seems fairly solid to me.

The big thing for me re Villa is they were 1.8 points with Grealish and 0.9 without him last season. They are building, but building from a side that was very much relegation fodder when he wasn't in the team.

The man who enjoyed autopiloting David Moyes' team to the next level in their continuing trajectory, then nosedived the club into the bottom half.
Look how we went up under him, then the loser players caved in to fans who couldn't bear to say goodbye to hoofball.

(I like the way your graph makes midtable look like we'd fallen into the abyss though)

I think they've bought well.

Interesting to see how they set up when Watkins is back. Could be 442. Think they'll be involved in lots of exciting games
I think they’ve bought well but it’s only a time will tell thing , grealish was such a huge part of their recent relative success . I just think he’ll take a lot of replacing .

The second topic is whether we have a manager who would take a risk with young players. I've posted quite a bit lately about successive managers at Everton not trusting young players enough. Prime example was Carlo last season who should have given more game time to Nkounkou and Gordon early in the season when their confidence was high and when Richie and Digne were unavailable. Silva wasn't much better and don't get me started on Big Sam. Is Benitez different? Would he start youngsters like Patterson? I don't know. My head tells me no he wouldn't, but I have to say I've enjoyed watching us in the 2 games this season a lot more than I did in the second half of last season under Carlo, so in that regard I've been wrong about him already.
To be fair, Gordon started 11 games in the championship, recording an impressive 0 goals and 0 assists on his loan. I like him, but we might be looking at the kid through blue lenses.

Because they relied on Grealish to create and Watkins to score. They've added another top goal scorer and 2 good creators. Neither as good as Grealish admittedly but they have more than one threat now. That has to be better. Their front 4 is stronger than ours right now. They'll comfortably finish around mid table.

What a total fabrication of events.

If you aren’t on the wind up, then you are seriously deluded or have convinced yourself that this actually happened, in which case you possibly need psychiatric assistance.

Fine lines with these kids and often it's about momentum. He was great in the first 2 league cup games. Dangerous and brimming in confidence. Then he gets dropped for the West Ham tie and not used when Richy banned. The momentum was gone and with it the confidence.

He wasn't trusted at Preston. First 2 games were promising and he got great reviews. Then dropped because the manager said he wasn't up to the scrap of the next few games, presumably against a bunch of kickers. He hardly played after that. Fine lines as I said

He is always on a wind up, I'm surprised the forum falls for it every time. (Tbf, I've bitten on more than one occasion!).

We need a right back. (Mods)
