You don’t realise how much he postitively influences the team until he’s gone.

And some people were happy to get 70m for him cos he had an average first touch. Conveniently forgetting very few players in the PL guarantee you 20 goals a season.

I wonder how the politics of the 'super league' fed into this transfer window - with Everton in particular putting their heads above the parapet.

I'm not sure it made any difference to be honest. Everton didn't make them do anything, their fans did. I don't think we impacted the "punishment" either.

He has to stay no alternative here. Absolute madness to sell him now.

Devil's advocate - we may have known this was happening for a while, have agreed a fee etc in principle for him and have been lining up replacements, hence the interest in Cunha, Correa etc

If it solves our FFP issues and allows us to bring in 4 or 5 players, it might not necessarily be the worst idea in the world - provided we recruit well, which is obviously a massive caveat

As a general principle, I don't think we should ever be scared of selling players. It happens, we just need to plan for their departures and have replacements lined up well in advance. The Lukaku sale was a spectacular example of how not to do it.

BENEITZ INTEREST IN MAUPAY - BUT SCUPPERED BY FFP

Everton boss Rafael Benitez is keen on Brighton striker Neal Maupay – but the club remain hamstrung by Financial Fair Play rules.

The Merseysiders need to sell to bring more in but are yet to find solutions for a string of first-team players including Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean.

They also have an interest in Burnley’s Dwight McNeil, but the situation remains the same at Goodison Park with less than a week left of the transfer window.

Maupay has had a good start to the season for Brighton, scoring two goals in two games, after a mixed time of it last term – and Marseille are also admirers of him.

But Brighton paid £20m for him to Brentford and he still has two years left on his contract, making it difficult for Everton to do a deal in this window.

Marcel Brands is in charge of transfers at Everton and is said to also be willing to listen to offers for the likes of Jonjo Kenny, Mason Holgate and Jarrad Branthwaite.

They had that on their talk show earlier basically said he would only be as an option off the bench if Kean is sold.

Would be happy with that - people need to reign in expectations we are a midtable outfit with no europe - no world class striker is coming to play second fiddle on the bench to DCL.

I'm preparing for a scenario like this: Richarlison sold by end of the weekend for £80M-£90M, half is spent on a couple of players in the last 2 days of the window, with the rest going to cover part of the losses the club have run up.

Won’t happen judging from history. That will be McNeil and Maupay. I rather we can’t spend and keep Richy.

It's quite clear that in the last few windows, Brands has bought and then assumed we could shift players.

Bernard, Kean, Tosun, Walcott, Bolasie, Besic, Kenny, Sandro etc were all expected to be sold for fees. Not Brands fault that we are a graveyard for players.

Our completely awful player sales has been masked by big sales like Stones, Lukaku, Barkley and Gueye which had nothing to do with Brands

He's supposedly in charge of transfers, both in and out. Of course it has something to do with Brands that we are a graveyard for players. This "let's give them 100k/week and then be surprised when we can't move anyone on" is his and the clubs fault.
