As much as I wanted to see James play in the flesh at the grand old lady he just doesn’t suit Benitez’s preferred style of play - not sure how you’d fit him in with our playing effectively a 4-4-2
I don't think he would start many games but he could certainly change them from the bench against tiring legs. He'd also be available more often playing less minutes.

If he’s playing right back then he’s no chance of getting into the England squad though. It’s our strongest area.
It was about 2 years ago before James came on the scene. Think he actually played left back the game I saw. Had a great game for them in a recent F A Cup final too I recall.

Anyway the point is he's not absolute pony like Kenny, so at this late stage he improves our squad at least. I'd much prefer Patterson on a perm.

True
But as for the type we need , the likes of Dzeko are still commanding big fees as bit part players .
I dont want Rondon fwiw but understand the type needed and the budget we are working with.

The proviso for me has to be a young talent like Jebbison brought in too.
See I'm the opposite. Why bother with Rondon? Just bring in the kid and let him be backup. Do you think DCL would have developed into the player we have now if he had somebody like Rondon blocking his path.

DCL hasn't turned out too badly.
He is excellent albeit it’s taken a long time. But he was signed for £1.5M in August 2016 and we could sell him for 50 times that. Kean was £25M, a Brands signing and apparently we’d be lucky to get that £25M back. From a pure business perspective all Everton have done in the last 5 years is destroy value, with a couple of exceptions such as Richarlison.

Okay so we keep him and dont get Diaz.

Now we are paying him 10m this season to a player that doesn't suit our style of play and will probably declare himself unfit for the rest of the season.
If it comes to a choice of the 2 it's obviously Diaz. But the point is you still need to replace James in the squad. Diaz doesn't really do that.

Young quick and versatile, can play right left and midfield . Will be eager to please and Southgate has taken a look at him for England so won't be absolute tosh. Better option than bringing nobody in.
I don’t get the negativity. Ok, he’s not “sexy” like a Luis Diaz, but this lad is a loan target and a competent footballer in a number of positions. Can play right back, right midfield, and centre midfield. Those kind of players can be valuable squad additions especially during the winter when injury and suspensions hit hard.

He impressed the West Brom fans in the main and browsing the opinions on Twitter of the Arsenal fans, the majority don’t understand why he’s being loaned again, especially to a “rival”. Would any of our fans be @rsed if we loaned them Davies? I’d say probably not.

He’s a decent player and won’t cost a transfer fee, leaving any money we have for other players. Sensible business IMO.
