Everton Summer transfers 2021

I’m getting mixed up, really

Amd you think we will get the players we need with 30mil. Good luck with that.

Ancelotti has constantly gone on about the ambition of the club/owners. 30mil won’t get the players that kick us on again next summer.

We aren't going to be in the market for £70m players. For one, they're all at Champions League clubs. So it's not happening.

£30m could get you Leon Bailey. Probably change to spare, tbh. He's a brilliant attacking player that would add exactly what we need to our front line. So that would kick us on.

We got Allan and Doucoure for a combined £40m. Have they not helped push us on? Keep in mind they've hardly played together since December, too.

Would £20m on a Dumfries from PSV, or Mbabu from Wolfsburg not be a vast improvement on what we have at right-back?

How about in midfield? What about £30-35m on a Fabian Ruiz type. Say he's a far bit better than Gomes.

We will need to sign starter which makes our starters now subs and our subs can do one. This is the way you upgrade.

Well kind of.

But you just bring in players that are quality and will know they are good enough to get games and then there's competition for places, especially if they add something different to what we have - which is where our recruitment has fallen down previously because we've bought a lot of the same types of players who want to do the same kind of thing, and we have no variety so it's just exposed as soon as there's an injury or suspension.

That's what it's about. And if you have Europe, you have more games to spread around so you don't have to worry about the game time aspect.

If you've read my comments about Brands you'd know I'm not his biggest fan.

But I'm not thinking it's realistic for us to spunk loads of dosh this summer. It's not happening.

FWIW, I don't think our outlay last summer was big. People keep banging on like it was.

It was bigger than expected, maybe, but let's face it as we've seen it went nowhere near far enough, even though each deal we completed has proved good.

£60m in fees last summer.

In summer 2019 we spent around £120m

In summer 2018 we spent around £70m (on fees).

In summer 2017 we spent around £130m - that's not including Rooney's signing on fee or wages - and then on top of that £47m in the January of 2018.

Compared to previous windows, last summer's spend was small.
Sorry my error The Esk.

Going to drop this in here then see what nonsense posts I wake up to in the morning when the ghouls come out to feast.

My guess is every half decent young Ajax player isn't going to be great

There's also the fact that we know we can't get 40 games out of James. Tops probably 30. So, there's at least a chunk of 'starts' to sell to an attacking player.

Godfrey wasn't brought in as a 'guaranteed starter'. He's played every game he's been available for bar two, I believe, and started all of them as far as I can recall.

It's also why getting Europe is vital. It gives us games to share around and allows us to build a better squad - which is what Leicester have done brilliantly.

Sigh.

I've cleared out the first half of the above as it was a waste of time and irrelevant. A midfielder and a right back will be a walk in the park to attract. I actually think being guaranteed a starting role in those positions at a club like Everton would be extremely attractive and really, really easy to sell to top players.

My original point is that it'll be more difficult to attract a winger to a club with 3 nailed on starters in the forward positions that all prefer to play in positions that actually make it difficult to fit wingers in in in the first place. Especially if we miss out on the Europa, which if I'm honest, I'm kind of expecting us to. My point was not that it is impossible to sign squad players or that we shouldn't bother. I actually expect us to sign a forward of some description after the right back and midfielder, I just don't know what their role will end up being, because I haven't a clue what system Ancelotti will favour as first choice next season. It wasn't a very controversial idea.

Nah on that list they all will be. They’ve all got great physical attributes (Taylor the least) which is usually what stops them being good coming from that league.

Bazoer has been great this season; linked to some bigger clubs again. Seems to have sorted himself out.
I feel like football becomes more and more a game where the athleticism of teams is what separates them as much as skill.

Fair enough. I agree it might not be the top priority but it should be up there. Don't think it's controversial, I just think it's far too simplistic.

You keep saying there's guaranteed starters up top. The point is, for us to get better, that needs to change, so we aren't so reliant on 2-3 players.

I also don't think it's correct.

James hasn't played in some games he's been available for this season because the nature of the match didn't suit - see Leeds away as an example.

James isn't going to suit every PL match, but those games that don't suit him, a fast winger to stretch the play could be needed if we want to play more on the counter, or if for example against certain teams we want James to drop in.

That's all doable without Europe, but having Europe makes it easier. It's up to the club to sell the idea to players but with the talent we do have I don't think it'd be a difficult sell for someone of the ilk of a Bailey, or Jonathan Ikone etc, I really don't. And they are definitely the type of players we should be looking at.
