Walmart Lukaku?
More a Trader Joes Anichebe.

From some youtube highlights I've seen, doesn't look like a long term signing for us and definitely not if we've got aspirations for being a regular top 4 club. If we're after just a squad player to have a cameo start in europe and cup games then fair enough. Would any other clubs around us in the table sign him, probably not. Season loan at best I reckon.

lol, squad player. Hes 20, its going to be a couple of years before he hits form, and if we bring him in its purely for long term development, not as a 1-2 year squad player. Would any other clubs around us sign him? Yes, his parent club already rejected at least one offer from clubs that finished higher than us last season. His game a couple of weeks ago is a great example of what he is right now. Looks like a young Lukaku with pure power and bullies defenders, but a really poor touch when trying to dribble etc. If you can develop that side of his game he has the potential to be as good as Lukaku in a way a smaller/slower player can never be, which is why clubs are interested. Theres no point to bringing him in as a squad player, you purely want to bring him in to see if you can develop him in a couple of years.

Looks a proper handful doesn't he. Aware of where his teammates are, bullies defenders and doesn't stop. Type of striker the fans would love.

I like the look of that. Powerful shot on him too for the goal.

Agree in the main but I'd disagree with that bit. If you can get him to develop and he becomes another Lukaku then great, but we're obsessed with everyone becoming a world beater when they really don't have to. If we can bring him in and he does a good job for a couple of years before 'finding his level' elsewhere then that's not a bad thing. Another poster mentioned Anichebe, and say what you want about him, but he was a regular player in a team that consistently finished higher than this one. You can have players like that, they don't all need to be wonderkids. Look at someone like Origi as the perfect example, he's never going to be a great player in his own right, but he's played an important part in them winning trophies and big games.

The mistake in this thinking for me is that Origi is useless without having Salah and Mane first. We don't need Anichebes or Origis until we've got a lot of class elsewhere.

That said Dike is basically what DCL was when he was 20 for me except already finding the net a bit more. He's a sensible target because we wouldn't have to change things much when he plays for Dom and because he's got tons of upside. I don't know what his ceiling is but it is one of those where it would be fun to find out.

Yeah that's what i'm getting at really. We have DCL and Richarlison already. If we bring in another striker who is competent enough to be able do a decent job for us for a few years before being sold on for pretty much what we paid it's not such a bad thing. Of course it's even better if he kicks on and becomes a world class talent, but we do seem to get a bit hung up on people being amazing when just having a squad full of decent players who can be trusted to do their job would be a start.

It's a start but not a good one. If you're going to sign nothing but decent players you'll never be more than decent. But that's why this makes sense as young decent players can move up.

I don't want us to get it confused, we do need actual quality at some point. Even someone like Richarlison I'm really not sure about. But having it come from players we develop might be more realistic than trying to buy it all.

Again, this is my point. We need quality to go into the starting eleven. We quite simply aren't going to go out and sign 4 or 5 new players to go straight into the team AND 3 or 4 more top quality players to improve the squad. We need to prioritise. To me, signing high quality players in the positions we don't have any is far more important than signing more high quality players in positions we do. In an ideal world that's a 20 year old who goes on to score 300 goals for us and becomes a global icon, but in the real world, if it's a player who scores 30 goals for us and gets sold at a book profit, it's probably worked out alright. There is a touch of the computer game about the way some people look at it, as if you can just go out and sign all the best prospects in the world and they all develop together making you an unstoppable force 5 years down the line. While that would certainly be brilliant, I just don't see it as very likely.

Watching his play, it honestly looks like he relishes the contact and bullying and looks for it almost more than the rest of the game. Absolutely punishing to defenders, love to see it.
