Everton Summer transfers 2021

Again, this is my point. We need quality to go into the starting eleven. We quite simply aren't going to go out and sign 4 or 5 new players to go straight into the team AND 3 or 4 more top quality players to improve the squad. We need to prioritise. To me, signing high quality players in the positions we don't have any is far more important than signing more high quality players in positions we do. In an ideal world that's a 20 year old who goes on to score 300 goals for us and becomes a global icon, but in the real world, if it's a player who scores 30 goals for us and gets sold at a book profit, it's probably worked out alright. There is a touch of the computer game about the way some people look at it, as if you can just go out and sign all the best prospects in the world and they all develop together making you an unstoppable force 5 years down the line. While that would certainly be brilliant, I just don't see it as very likely.
I think I see what you mean. My feeling remains that consistent development of players remains our only chance. I don't see us buying a competitive squad of players who come in at the level we'd like. No it won't be a magical 5 year run but if you stick to it and do it well we've got a shot.

And as I've explained your way doesn't and wont work in this league, we cant take 3 years "off" while we wait for the squad to mature.

We don't play in DAS SPL.

Then we don't do it at all. We've got no other real choice.

And as I've tried to explain I don't want us to buy bad players and wait, ie Aarons, I want to buy decent players and try to make them better ie Richarlison.

Finishing 11th a couple of times wouldn't be the end of the world if there was a plan. As it is we just finish there for no reason.

I mean we buy loads of players to develop.

Just not as many as you want.

Take Lookman, didn't do a bean for us and lets be honest hasn't really grown into anything special since.

Sure the players we bought to replace him are vastly worse, but that just means we have to buy better players, it doesn't mean younger players.

Nobody has ever won anything with kids in this league.

We aren't going to win anything with kids either. That's not the plan.

So the plan is to win League One?
Honestly that's not even the plan. I'm suggesting buying younger not young. We could sign a whole bunch of 22 and 23 year Olds who are both fine enough now and still able to improve.

I really don't get why this is so controversial. Exactly what I said would happen last summer is what has happened.

Same.

People get angry when we draw a game. Absolutely no chance they’d accept bottom half finishes now.
