Part of it would most likely include Stones types who reach a higher class after leaving us. That's not a bad thing. Stones was never better than maybe slightly above average here.

In his first full season with us Stones was brilliant, his poor form seemed to coincide when he started getting games for England.

Yes and a terrible defensive coach in Martinez, our defence at that stage were skiing uphill.
As I say that first season he was brilliant, maybe started believing his own publicity when he became an England regular.

Hes one of the most comfortable CBs I've seen with the ball at his feet! He Carrie's it brilliantly, great passing range etc.

Its not a weakness of his. A weakness is hes still not quite aggressive enough as a CB, and has this habit of not blocking shots.,

For a lad who's 23 though, hes excellent. People go on about that Gabriel, whove I've watched a bit for Arsenal. Hes miles behind Godfrey for me

Big Oils digging out of Godfrey is proper weird.

I suppose some did go overboard by saying he would go the Euros and hes easily our best CB, but to constantly dig the lad out when hes been 1 of our better players this season is proper strange.
