I think a lot of midfielders will fill in positions at certain times. And maybe easier to do that at Ajax in a week Dutch league. Like Doucoure at Leicester when Allan went off. But you wouldn’t say he’s a defensive midfielder. If he could play that position, with injuries to Pogba, surely he would get more games. And with Fred playing every game.
Brands was delivering what we needed when we had silva in charge for the style of play silva said he wanted to play.
The issue is ancelotti became available and he was too good a opportunity to turn down but he plays completely differently to silva. So players who were brought in who were useful in silvas system aren't fit for purpose in ancelotti but the players brands has brought in since ancelotti came in have all been first team regulars.
With league positioning I think people need to remember how we played in the first part of the season. When we had a fully fit squad, we havent been able to play that team since the goodison Derby because of injuries. I dont think many more teams have suffered more injuries then us this season. I think we're the only team in the league to have every single player injured at one point. Not to mention allan out for 3 months, digne out for 2 months, Doucoure will be out for over 2 months, richarlison has missed about 2 months all in all and james will only ever play about half of our games a season. I mean bloody hell we've had our two keepers injured at the same time.

Kessie has been brilliant this season after a flat 2019/2020 season...hes moved into defensive midfield permanently.
Wouldnt call him a holding midfielder or anchor perse as he can get the ball and drive forwards...top notch.

Probs because unless we're selling one it's a waste of time.
When you have a house with 4 stable walls but no roof why spend money painting the walls? Got far more pressing problems than CB in this squad.

Davy Klaassen has 9 goals and 2 assists in 22 games this season in the Dutch league. Absolutely swerve any player from that farmers league.. and that includes Van de Beek.
I really don't think he did. Neither Kean nor Iwobi appeared to be the type of players Silva wanted, and he definitely wanted a more mobile centre half (like Zouma) that we didn't get. I felt a bit sorry for Silva in that respect. Don't get me wrong, he deserved his sacking, but it did seem like he had a specific style of play in mind and we didn't really get him the players he needed to be able to do it. Obviously a better manager would have adapted and found a way to make it work, but it must have been a pain for him to not be able to set up as he'd expected to.
