Everton Summer transfers 2021

It will be Mina that makes way. He's on a big salary (for us) and is going to interest a wider range of clubs in more countries because he's an established international who has language skills that will allow him to settle in quickly. By comparison, Holgate will only attract bids from PL clubs.

From our perspective, based on the premise that Koulibaly would be coming in as a starting XI player, we'd also be better off keeping Holgate than Mina. The pecking order would be:

First choice: Koulibaly & Keane
First off the bench: Godfrey
Developing: Holgate

That makes far more sense (considering salaries, ages and current levels of development) than:

First choice: Koulibaly & Mina
First off the bench: Keane
Developing: Godfrey
Holgate is 24 and played almost 150 first team games. As has Godfrey I think. I'm not sure we can label either as strictly developmental. That's sort of where Branthwaite is.

......never understand the vitriol Jesse Lingard gets on here. Fine player, willing to get ahead of the striker. He’s only on loan from United.
The thing is he’s been shocking for 3 years. Hardly getting goals or assists. Maybe moyes playing him the 10 role is helping. I still wouldn’t want him.

And utd now will be looking at probably 25mil

I like 433, with 442 you get over run to much for me.
The evidence from this season shows that we played our best football (with everyone fit) in a 433. Until we buy more players we have to deploy in the way that suits us best, subject to injuries.

We've used a 442 more recently because Allan was out injured for a while and we can't operate a 3-man midfield with only one of Allan or Doucoure fit.

The crux of the issue is the midfield. We need at least one new elite CM or we will continue to get bummed in the middle of the park, regardless of the formation or tactics we try.

...which is EXACTLY why he's suddenly putting some effort in.

He's been the textbook example of a lazy, entitled git for several years now at Utd. All of a sudden he slips down the pecking order, gets shipped out on loan and FINALLY starts listening to his agent. He's playing for his next deal, and the minute he gets it he will revert to type. What we're seeing right now is the absolute peak of Lingard's career and the decline will start the absolute second he signs a new deal with another club. Massive, massive swerve.
300%. It's basically in American sports they call it the "contract year". Players playing welll above their level the year before they are meant to hit free agency. They get a monster contract and revert to type.

Not a chance THIS is the "NEW" Jesse Lingard.

This should be how we go forward next season, IMO.

Pickford
NEW RB - Keane - Mina - Digne
NEW QB
Doucs - Allan
Hamez ------ Rico
DCL

Already got your back.

Missed a lot of games through injury and 3 goals and 4 assists isn't really that good a return, IMO.

Hes head and shoulders above what we have for sure, but I dunno, doesn't seem great.

Seen him have some great games, but others he is a bit headless chicken.

All it's made me do is despaired at the fact that a average footballer with a bit of pace running at teams like Burnley makes them absolutely poo themselves. Yet when we play them all we want to do is pass it around the back.

I'm not arsed who we bring in in the summer as long as they have a brain. We have the thickest squad in the league imo.

All the more reason to not to keep Keane AND Mina as well, should Koulibaly come on board. We wouldn't be able to afford Godfrey's next pay rise if all three of the others are still at the club. Godfrey, to my mind, looks like he's going to overtake at least one of Mina and Keane in terms of performance within the next year - this is where our respective views diverge, because you don't seem to rate the lad.

Don't really think you should be building a team with James in there as a starter. Not that he isn't, by far, the best player we have but build a team around a player who can more than deputize and have James play when he is fit.

I'd probably wait until Godfrey actually does it to sell either is all. If he does than what you're saying makes sense.
