Seems strange to want to spend out Koulibaly now.

If the plan is to persist with Keane, it'll mean having to carry on camping on the edge of our box regardless of who's next to him.

All the more reason to not to keep Keane AND Mina as well, should Koulibaly come on board. We wouldn't be able to afford Godfrey's next pay rise if all three of the others are still at the club. Godfrey, to my mind, looks like he's going to overtake at least one of Mina and Keane in terms of performance within the next year - this is where our respective views diverge, because you don't seem to rate the lad.

Godfrey isn't ready yet to play centre half every week. He makes quite a few mistakes.

300%. It's basically in American sports they call it the "contract year". Players playing welll above their level the year before they are meant to hit free agency. They get a monster contract and revert to type.

Not a chance THIS is the "NEW" Jesse Lingard.
I don't really disagree, but he's showing that he has a much higher ceiling than anyone would have thought six months ago.

I'm certainly not expecting to see Delph and Sigurdsson hit such heights in their contract years next season.

I'd probably wait until Godfrey actually does it to sell either is all. If he does than what you're saying makes sense.
if you wait in the manner you're suggesting, you have to extend Mina's contract now. That means in a year's time, when you want to sell him he'll be on a bigger wage than he currently is. And in the interim, you are limiting Godfrey's playing time.

Do you honestly not see that Godfrey has far more upside than Mina or Keane? Do you not see how his pace is an attribute that neither Keane nor MIna possess?

He has pace. They have understanding of how to play CB.

Not as many for me, no. Godfreys best games have probably come at left back.

He's got the physical tools to be an outstanding centre half but needs to get better positionally
He's just very reactive. And when you're as fast as him that is often fine but there are times where he doesn't read it in time and can't recover. If he can work that out he really can be great but he's very much not there currently.

Godfrey can develop that - if he doesn't already have it, having played CB for Norwich.

Mina and Keane aren't going to get faster.
And I'm asking to see evidence that he's doing so before tossing my eggs in his basket.

I'm not denying that Godfrey has potential to be really good but that's all it is for me, I've seen little to suggest he's getting there and nothing to suggest he is there already.

He can be a top player which is why I'm happy we signed him but he still needs some work and isn't currently in our top 2 centre halves. He could end up much better than Mina and Keane though.
