Everton Summer transfers 2021

The reaction here to a player like Lingard shows exactly why nothing on here should be taken seriously.

Most ordinary supporters have an opinion on a player based on just about everything bar his football ability. Tom Davies is the classic case in point Rabid criticism of him until his displays were so good they couldn't be criticized so they keep quiet until he has a poor performance and then back they com

Lingard,I think, has a face it is hard to like.
I don't think anybody expected him to do as well as he has but he has always had two traits we could do with

Pace and the ability to score.

Thankfully, any transfers in or out will have nothing to do with fans opinion

Pre the internet, the signing of Kevin Campbell was another one that immediately springs to mind.

I can remember sitting in the St End for his first home game and hearing nothing but negativity about him - too slow, crap, no control, played second fiddle to Ian Wright etc

Sometimes a player and a club are just right for each other.

If we had signed Cavani last summer, it would have been regarded as an awful
Signing. The same with Lingard. We just don't think how Signings will turn out. I'd love if we signed Matic for a season he will nail down that holding midfield position. Still plenty left in the tank

The evidence from this season shows that we played our best football (with everyone fit) in a 433. Until we buy more players we have to deploy in the way that suits us best, subject to injuries.

We've used a 442 more recently because Allan was out injured for a while and we can't operate a 3-man midfield with only one of Allan or Doucoure fit.

The crux of the issue is the midfield. We need at least one new elite CM or we will continue to get bummed in the middle of the park, regardless of the formation or tactics we try.
Agree we look better in a 433 we need that third midfielder to be a mobile play maker who can drive forward.

Yeah lets ignore the rest of his 8 year career and condense it into a 4 week period.

That seems logical.
I don't think he was awful for the 8 year career you mention either. Much maligned mainly because his dances irritate people and not because of his footballing ability.

Theres a reason United got rid and it wasn't cos of his silly dances.

I don't think he was ever that bad, but if he keeps up his current form he would be a good signing for any team in the world, I'm just not convinced he will.

Look it's easy with hindsight to say we should have gone for him and I'm not saying I was calling for it myself. I just never understood the bad billing he got. And it has been well established that not good enough for an elite club doesn't mean not good enough elsewhere.

So you would sign him on the back of a very good 3months at West Ham?

Not being arsey, just asking.

We had plenty of players under Moyes who fit us perfectly at the time, were boss, but didn’t work out elsewhere. The right club and manager, as well as when their contract expires for the more mercenary types, is all very important. Would not go near Lingard myself.

That would very much depend on a lot of other factors that would determine whether it's worth the risk or not.

As I said, I didn't think he was that bad for United when he played either. He lacked game time and often had some exceptional players ahead of him on the pecking order.

I agree.

I'm honestly confused why given this we have any desire to sign a CB. Sell Mina to sign someone supposedly better is very FIFA career mode like.
But what do the club do if he doesn’t want to sign a new deal. Or we don’t want to offer him one? . Sometimes contracts dictate situations.

They could leave it a year and sell next summer, but that becomes a huge risk. If clubs are into him and tell him to wait 6months then he can leave for free.

A lot more players seem to be waiting these days abs letting their contracts run down.

Obviously if he doesn't want to sign we should sell him, I wasn't really considering that because I honestly don't know that he's got the market to turn us down.
