would it still be one of the best central mids if Strootman sat most of the season out because of injury?

MASSIVE and i mean massive liability Strootman is right now. Don't care how good he was meant to be, until he shows he can play the majority of a season then we may as well keep gibson as the injury prone midfielder.

Gibson isnt fit to lace Strootmans boots.

I actually doubt he would leave roma at the moment, if we got kovacic though id not be upset.

Kovacic and Leno would put us on a new level.

And here lies the issue with Strootman, from what I can tell hes been fully fit since around Feb, with no issues, the reason he hasnt played is hes struggled to break into the Roma midfield ahead of De Rossi, Negagagagagagin(sp),Florenzi(sp)also Pjanic, in that time hes played a number of 90minutes for Roma and the Dutch National team.

the-sound-of-silence-cr-deva-suzanne.webp

Given the wall of silence the club now seems to operate, I'm just sitting tight to see who we get, ignoring the papers in the process.

I'm deffo not getting my knickers in a twist over other teams signing players, and just because a comic paper says we're interested in someone doesn't mean it's true.

I'm sceptical at spending the reported amount on someone that has serious injury problems. WAS a great player 18 months ago when he was destined for Manchester United. The lad is quality but would need to prove himself over a season for me to be convinced. A loan to buy.......

West Ham and Everton have been offered the chance to sign Croatia international Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old Croatia international also has interest from Juventus but is interested in a move to the Premier League where he believes he could flourish.

Kovacic is a box to box player who can also play as the holding midfielder and has an edge to his game which could be suited to England.

Fulham may be forced to reconsider their asking price for Ross McCormack as his £12million escape clause expires on Friday.

Manager Slavisa Jokanovic is eager to rebuild his squad to give them a fighting chance of promotion. However, key to that is the future of top goalscorer McCormack.

Jokanovic needs funds to bring in other players he wants and sacrificing McCormack can allow him to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

However, they may struggle to strike a deal for the 29-year-old for their desired £12m.

Newcastle, Aston Villa, Norwich City, Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday all have an interest in McCormack but have been deterred by the clause figure so far. That lapses after July 1 which will open the door for them to negotiate and try to sign the Scotland international for a lesser figure.

Fulham had wanted Dwight Gayle, who is signing for Newcastle for £10m, and Serbia international midfielder Radosav Petrovic from Kiev, who has since signed for Sporting Lisbon.

They have already lost Moussa Dembele to Celtic for just £450,000 with his former club Paris Saint- Germain also taking a cut of the fee.

McCormack scored 23 goals last season, despite missing part of the campaign following the collapse of his move to Middlesbrough, and remains one of the most prolific strikers in the division.

Stoke City have expressed a late interest in Fenerbahce winger Nani.

The Portugal international has a £6.5million transfer to Valencia lined up once his participation in Euro 2016 is over but Stoke are exploring the possibility of him coming to the Britannia Stadium instead.

The 29-year-old's release clause expires today, June 30, but Valencia have asked to pay the fee in instalments while Stoke could pay in one lump sum.

Everton and Inter Milan had also expressed interest in the former Manchester United winger.

Juventus have joined Real Madrid by expressing interest in Leicester City midfielder N'Golo Kante.

The 25-year-old France international has a £20million clause which allows clubs to begin negotiations with the Premier League champions but the queue of suitors is growing each week.

Leicester have already lined up Nampalys Mendy from Nice, are talking to Norwich over Robbie Brady and have posted an interest in Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina too.

Juventus, meanwhile, are continuing to stress that Paul Pogba is not for sale but Manchester United and Madrid remain keen to pursue a deal for the France international.

Tottenham target Vincent Janssen has expressed frustration with his club AZ Alkmaar for rejecting the Premier League side's £15million bid.

Wolfsburg have also made an approach for the 21-year-old who held talks with Tottenham in London after Alkmaar gave permission.

'I have expressed my choice to the club. Tottenham Hotspur have made a high bid in my eyes,' Janssen told Dutch television on his first day of pre-season training with AZ. 'At the moment I’m still a bit disappointed with AZ. I’m disappointed with how they behaved. I would like to make the move.'

Janssen has three years remaining on his contract having joined from Almere City for £300,00 last summer. He added: 'I indicated I would take the next step and want to get away from the club. They know and are aware of it. It’s a shame, I would have wished that it would go a little faster. Sure it’s fine to train again. AZ is a fantastic club but I want to make that next step for my development. Ultimately I hope to shake people’s hand here and walk out of the door on good terms.

'This is frustrating.'

Newcastle have yet to reach agreement with Bournemouth over a fee for winger Matt Ritchie.

The 26-year-old Scotland international is a target for Rafael Benitez but the Spaniard will hold further talks with Andros Townsend first.

The England winger is a target for Crystal Palace but is still keen to work with Benitez next season despite Newcastle's relegation. Palace can trigger his release clause but Townsend can still ask to stay.

Talks over a move for Ritchie remain at an early stage.

Crystal Palace are keen to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke but have yet to make an offer.

Liverpool want £30million for the Belgium international who has expressed a desire to stay and fight for his place but is facing a dilemma with Jurgen Klopp likely to leave him on the bench.

West Ham retain an interest too as they juggle several options.

Palace hope to finalise a £1.5million deal for Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda amid reports in France he underwent a medical at France's base in Clairefontaine on Thursday morning.

Manchester City are not pursuing a deal for Thiago Alcantara. The Spain international followed Pep Guardiola from Barcelona to Bayern Munich and has been linked with a move to Manchester in recent weeks. However, the 25-year-old midfielder is not on Guardiola's immediate wishlist.

City, meanwhile, have sold defender Florian Lejeune to Eibar in Spain for £1.25m. City only signed Lejeune from Girona for around £215,000 a year ago, loaned him back, and have now sold him for a profit of around £1m.

Villarreal full back Bojan Jokic is weighing up a return to the Championship.

The 30-year-old had a spell on loan at Nottingham Forest last season and is attracting fresh interest this summer. Sheffield Wednesday are among the clubs to have asked about a possible loan for the Slovenia international who has 77 caps for his country.

I think if we are going for him then the terms will be the interesting part of it.

The fact he was allowed to play in the Dutch games gives me hope, complaints against how his first injury was managed and operated on could just show how poorly he was treated and the new op has sorted him out.

IF, and it is a big IF, we get him and he is fit. He would boss the league. Great player, on the right terms absolutely worth the punt.

Gibson isnt fit to lace Strootmans boots.

I actually doubt he would leave roma at the moment, if we got kovacic though id not be upset.

Kovacic and Leno would put us on a new level.

i'm not doubting the quality of strootman at the top of his game. Certanly that sort of player would be better than what we have. What i mean is right now, he is still on a long come back trail. Plus he has to prove he can A)stay fit and B) recapture his form . Bring him in on loan or for a fee similar to canalas (another great player injury prone) then sure, have him here for the gamble. But i can't see any team never mind everton putting any serious levels of money for him, just would be wasting your money.

Putting it out there, Van Ginkel? He was meant to be a decent midfielder when chelsea signed him. How did he get on at stoke (?) last season?

Pretty sure that's the French version of the metro.

Just came back from spending a few weeks in France and unless I'm mistaken it's one of those papers which can be picked up for free in some shops etc.

Doesn't necessarily mean they don't have info like...

Looking at wiki, his stoke loan got terminated and he went out to PSV. Never been impressed with him.

I can understand some of them displacing him like. Pjanic rossi and Naj are top quality players.

But with Pjanic gone now, with naj off to chelsea (rumour) he could then be first choice for them with de rossi in the middle?
