But they weren't being managed by Guardiola... so that has nothing to do with him?

At the moment he is the most highly rated/touted manager in football.

If he was at Everton we'd all be saying the same thing.

Bayern regressed under guardiola for me.
Call me a cynic, but when your poach all the best players off your main title rival, in BVB, it makes it so much easier to win the league.

Not saying he's not a top manager, but I don't think he's the best in the world.

Well signing Witsel (hopefully) puts that problem to rest a bit.

Barry - 35 (not 34)
McCarthy - 25
Besic - 23
Gibson - 28
Cleverley - 26
Witsel - 27
Barkley - 22

Is the midfield that would leave us with. I imagine one or two (Gibson and Clev) may be moved on if we can bring in another midfielder as well.

Barry is showing no signs of slowing up though, but his game time should probably be more limited this year.
Gibson just signed a new deal so I doubt it...

He signed it before Koeman was officially our manager.

I imagine RK had a say, but I'm almost certain it was a pre-agreed clause in his old deal.

Still think we'll sell if an offer comes in - means we can get some money for him rather than let him go for free anyway.

If anyone missed what Mitsel's dad said here it is:

--"Everton and Napoli are fighting to sign Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel from Zenit St Petersburg, according to the player’s father.

Thierry Witsel has told Italian radio stationCRC: "It's true I met with (Napoli sporting director) Cristiano Giuntoli in Brussels. It was a positive discussion and there could be interest by both parties, so we'll see how things evolve.

"Everton's interest is concrete, like Napoli's, so the negotiation is ongoing, and to see if the marriage happens we have to see the conditions and understand what is the best destination for the player.

"Napoli is a great club. They had Maradona amongst their protagonists so they don't need to be praised.

"(Dries) Mertens spoke very highly of Napoli with Axel. He knows that going to Napoli would mean joining a big club and making a step forward in his career."

yep it's definitely going to be close.

the doubt from the Belgian journos side is if Napoli can afford what Zenit are asking for.

We can.

Those comments don't look good on our hopes of landing him. It would be hypocritical of lukaku to 'be in his ear' to come to Everton when he is so desperate to get away.

It all comes down to who can afford the transfer fee.

By the looks of it, we may have already agreed a deal (even if it's in principle) with Zenit - e.g. the £30mil figure.

Napoli probably couldn't afford to match that, but the player may want to move there rather than here.

We'll see.

Would be great if it came off, but if not there'll be other targets.

The lack of movement in will only make it easier for ones to leave. Would have preferred a big signing first rather than a 33 year old back up goalkeeper to mark our intent. Also does the 100mil moshri money include tv funds or is that seperate

it may just be a case that napoli's interest was made a couple of weeks back, whereas ours has only just been made.

The whole Lukaku situation is worrying. But surely even if Lukaku wants to leave he still has great memorys. Great friends and love for the club.
