We can afford a load of players. What we cannot do is pay them all high wages unless we show a profit on our non-tv revenues (which, in the short term, means selling a player at a big profit). Them's are the Prem rules!

yep, which means stones. Well he's the prime candidate. Of course we could afford a load of players, i meant good ones ha.

Selling stones could be the difference of buying a number 1 keeper, a backup striker and maybe another defender (as well as his replacement), seeing as we're so intent on buying all the central midfielders ha

We can sign who we want, stop focusing on FFP STC PFTPEL and other stupid things.

Everton are gonna buy EVERYBODY.

but i don't want to be fined £140k like the RS seem to be fined every time they break all the rules. Let's be honest, we'd be fined, they haven't got the balls to enforce a points deduction.

@The Esk Sorry to bug you again, but you are the goto person on here for this sort of matter. I understand the stadium and Architecture going forward etc, but with regards the wages and how they affect our ability to sign players.... I've highlighted the points that maybe you can clarify?

Basically, if we don't sell Stones, can we (Moshiri) be more 'creative' with the way we conduct our business i.e 3rd party companies paying wages to players, stadium 'redevelopment' allowing naming rights and the inherent increased commercial income, that sort of stuff?

Re creativity - things we can do: naming rights; things we currently cannot influence: commercial revenue as it's all outsourced (unless we broke contracts which is unlikely and would probably have minimal affect this year); things we can't do: 3rd party companies paying wages.

The only commercially sensible decision (IMO) this year is to match the increase in wages by player trading profits. Next year and beyond it will be easier as our profile increases, Chang deal ends and we move closer to a new stadium.

So basically, either a 'completely semi-illegal too much for the name' ing rights deal, or Stones has to go? If we want to buy the high profile players linked to us?

I'd never advocate anything that is not wholly legal. I said in the stadium thread that the smartening up of Goodison may be a precursor to a short term naming rights deal. However that would only assist rather than providing a complete solution. Player trading profits is the only viable route.

That does not = 'sell your best players'

That was why Moshiri left Arsenal. A major complaint of his.

Player trading does not necessarily have to be the best players in the squad. Just to preempt the fume.

Ronald Koeman reassures Everton fans that signings will happen "in the coming days and weeks"

Ronald Koeman has reassured Everton fans that "everything will be fine" in regards to the club's summer transfer plans.

Dutch paper De Telegraaf reports that, when asked about bringing in new players, Koeman replied: "Things will start happening in the coming days and weeks. Everything will be fine."

The reassurance from the Blues boss comes as it emerges that Everton have cooled their interest in Stoke winger Marko Arnautovic.

Everton cool interest in Marko Arnautovic as Stoke City offer new contract

Reports this morning suggested that the club were preparing to trigger the Austrian's £12.5m release clause. However, developments have now taken a complete U-turn, with Everton backing off from the deal and Arnautovic set to sign a new four-year deal at Stoke.

So far the only player to arrive at Everton under Koeman is goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who was signed from Fulham for an undisclosed fee.

The appointment of former Leicester man Steve Walsh as Director of Football should signal a progression in Everton's transfer activity.

To make any significant difference to spending it does though. Not necessarily all our best players but letting go one of our key players every so often.

The key will be in Walsh uncovering some gems for low fees.

Yes, sorry mate I wasn't trying to put you on the spot or anything.
I was just trying to clarify how this transfer window could work without Stones going.
I'm going to be totally facetious and ask if, by creative accounting, the cost of the redevelopment building works,
could cost an amount that offsets the wage increase we might take onboard?
Actually, I won't ask you to answer that, I shouldn't put you in an awkward situation.

Thanks for your replies though!

Only if we had a dishonest owner and board, plus incompetent auditors - even if they contemplated "creative accounting" it's not worth it and to the best of my knowledge Moshiri is not dishonest.

I think we'll increase the wage bill by between £20 and £40 million this year, we can't fudge our revenues by that amount - we will need to create a player trading profit to comply with STCC.

Ok, thanks for that. I was having a conversation the other day and the guy was adamant that if Stones wanted to stay, we would be able to find a way around the STCC, buy new players and make it work. Unfortunately, you've proved me right, but again thanks for your reply.
