People now thinking we don't need reinforcements. . Ya mad! Our squad needs an overhaul

Such people are totally deluded. Our squad is weak and not much different from three years ago. The rest of the Premier League has long since moved on and we will be left behind unless we start making significant improvement to the squad. They're the people who were saying "We are on the verge of something special here" whilst Martinez was overseeing some of the worst and totally ineffective football ever seen at Goodison.

it doesn't need an overhaul at all.

We've already overhauled what needed changing and that was the managerial staff and running of the club.

The squad needs some quality additions and to get rid of some of the deadwood.

You can't completely change a squad in one window and expect success. As Spurs and Liverpool have found out in recent years, it doesn't work at this level.

but we've changed the manager who as you rightly point out was a big part of the problem.

The squad doesn't need a complete whitewash change, just a few quality tweaks in personnel. I'm still confident we'll get them - there's really no reason not to be - but we do have a lot of talented players in the squad, albeit a lot who play in similar roles (again a fault of the previous regime).

In all fairness, we have a lot of players who are absolutely nowhere near good enough and need to be shipped out. But actually getting rid of them and finding a buyer will prove to be difficult. I am talking about the likes of Gibson, Oviedo, Kone, Cleverley, Niasse, McGeady. That's a quarter of the squad offering nothing whatsoever in terms of quality and earning millions for it.

Then we need to be finding long-term replacements for Barry and Jagielka, possibly a quality replacement for Stones if and when he goes, a new goalkeeper, competition at right back, a second striker...

I'd call that an overhaul.

The current squad is very limited and way off the top Premier League teams. We needs a new goalkeeper and at least three new top quality players if we want to move on from competing with Palace and Swansea for 12th place.

I think we need about 6 players, with others to be sold/out on loan as those signings materialise.

GK, CB, DM, and striker are critical/must-have signings by close of the window. I would settle for that now by the end of August. At the moment it sounds like a lot of work but things can change in an instant.

At a push, I would like RB cover and another midfielder as well.

Now Higuain has signed for Juve, the Pogba-Man United deal should not be long in coming. Both transfers have a knock-on affect on whether or not we will get Witsel and Mata. I don't really get what the hold-up is with Carvalho. I read Chelsea are interested but there will always be competition for decent players.

I just hope we are not left going into the final week of the window still looking to make the bulk of our signings. I hope that type of brinkmanship was for the 'old' Everton.

Koulibaly, Witsel & Gana to come in as all speak French. Patricio to arrive with Carvalho so they can talk to each other. Kev, Geri and Robles can invite Mata to the fold. Sorted.

yep but that isn't an overhaul, and once more you seem to be believing that a manager who can actually organise a side isn't going to improve us?

Even with all of our faults, if not for some of RM's inept tactics last season we'd have been competing for top 8. Yes not exactly where we should/want to be, but better than where we were...

The squad isn't weak but it is totally unbalanced and that's entirely down to Martinez. We do need players and we would all like to see a few superstars arrive but we don't need a new squad and we haven't been left behind. Martinez and his philosophy were the real problem and they have been removed. The last 2 friendlies have already shown signs of a much fitter and more balanced team. If he can get the team balance right with the players at his disposal and without wasting the majority of our transfer budget then the money he does have can be spent on players that will actually improve us rather than simply get us back to where we were before Roberto's phenomenal appointment.
