Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Most of the squad (excluding the youth as we have seen) dont typically play the way he has set up sides in the past.

Completely agree

Some of them will be able to adapt obviously, Baines, Mirallas, Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofeu, Jagielka (when fit) - have all shown that they are capable of playing in a different style or have enough quality/are young enough to adpat their games - and can argue that the way we have been playing lately has been a poor system for some of them (Deulofeu, barkley and Lukaku) all seem more suited to a more dynamic game - and hopefully the improved fitness coaching can see that flourish.

a lot of the others are either simply not good enough, or don't appear to be adaptable enough to maybe change there style over to one fitting what Koeman seems to like to use

yeah players like Lennon, Cleverley, McCarthy can likely perform similar no matter what the system as what they really bring is a bit of running and effort - but none of them really should, you'd have to hope - be featuring in the managers plans going forward.

Need an utter culling of this squad right now, and IF we are sticking to bringing in 6-7 quality additions then hope these ;latest links with Gueye and Williams is showing that we maybe plan to overhaul the squad players as well rather than being an injury away from the likes of Lennon or Cleverley going into the starting 11.

Have to say I like the Koeman brothers. So refreshing to have straight talking after the bluff and bluster from Martinez.
Absolutely positive we won't lack for fitness or effort under their stewardship.
EK's comments regarding signings are encouraging. Gueye and Williams this week would lift spirits and both would be good in their own right.

There's been excuse after excuse put forward (by our fans not the club) as to why no significant signings as yet. For example :

No business (setting up of transfers) until new manager appointed and until after the Euros.
The new manager was on holiday.
Players on holiday.
Players involved in Euros were away on holiday.
Players only just back for training.
Manager needs to assess the squad he's got.
Manager needs to assess players in pre-season games.
Awaiting appointment of new Director of Football.
Potential targets away on tour with current clubs, so can't do proper business until back.
Potential targets can't be properly discussed until 'selling club' bring in marquee signing(s) eg Pogba).
Potential targets holding out for a better deal at Cl club (eg Witsel).
Sky money not released until 1st August.
Have to sell one of our main assets (eg Stones) to meet FFP rules first and free up cash.

So, we should be ready now surely........

Another you can add to your list mate:

"People are really underestimating the damage Roberto Martinez has done to the reputation of Everton."

"Sorry mate, it's not really the place for a photo here is it ? "

It's not hard Darron.

Aparrently it is mate

yeah npot one to say that they shouldn't be able to enjoy the normal stuff etc, but for certain players who have a reputation about them, it's just plain stupid to put themselves into a place thats gonna get them tagged to bits and generate more bad stories

Yes, mate it is.

Fans like @kithnou want value for money.

Overspending and getting poor value is not good for a football club.

Imagine we spend £10 million plus £3.5 million a year on wages on Ashley Williams.

He spends three years at the club. Thats £6.8 MILLION per year we will be paying out and have to write off due to this fee and player.

Thats not good value at all. When we are linked for other players at a fraction of that price with BOOK VALUE at the end of three years.

... who are no good. So you'd rather we have a strong asset value in 2 year's time and be in the Championship?

What's clear here mate is that we have been on a starvation diet at Everton for so long that it feels wrong to spend anything more than £5 mill on anyone other than a marquee signing. We have to get used to the fact that a) sky money this year and b) a billionaire owner has changed the game for us completely. The top 6 Prem teams (plus the RS in truth) would not and have not batted an eyelid at making the kind of signings that Williams would be, irrespective of age - because they can. We now also have that capacity. Learn to live with it. I'm personally very confident that Williams would not be the main CB we bring in this window, assuming Stones leaves.

@The Esk thought our very own serial
Failure had nothing to do with transfers anymore...

Everton set for "busy" week in transfer market, says Erwin Koeman
“Ronald and the chairman are very busy with that,” says Blues assistant boss

Everton will be “very busy” trying to secure signings this week, says Erwin Koeman.

The Blues have yet to sign an outfield player this summer with goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg the only new arrival since Ronald Koeman took charge in mid-June.

Everton kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Spurs in less than two weeks and the manager wants to bolster his squad with new faces.

The transfer window does not shut until the end of August but Blues No.2 Erwin suggests the club will step up their efforts to sign players this week.

“Ronald and the chairman are very busy with that,” he said.

But either way, Everton’s new assistant manager insists that there will be no excuses for the squad not being fit and ready for the season’s curtain raiser at Goodison on August 13.

The Blues finished their short stay in Germany with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Betis in the Dresden Cup after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

On Wednesday night, Koeman takes his side to Old Trafford to play against Manchester United in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial before they welcome Espanyol to Merseyside for their final warm-up game of the summer.

“Some players made their first minutes here and they need more time,” Erwin said.

“We can talk about a lot of things but in two weeks the league starts and we have to be ready.

“There is no excuse for that.

“It’s for us but all the other teams too.

“Not one team in the Premier League is ready for the moment. In two weeks the circus will start.”

Asked if some of Everton’s squad were struggling to cope with the change in style implemented by his brother Ronald, Erwin said: “It’s different for players.

“They are used to playing of the way of Martinez and now we have to play the way Ronald likes.

“That is not always easy.

“Of course you have some players who start late. It takes time but we know in two weeks we have to perform.”

Roberto Martinez and the powers that be inflicted a lot of damage on the club's already mediocre reputation so try not to hang on every rumour, I doubt we'll see any top players bought in this window, more of a clear out and bring in one or two squad players.

Thats got one key word in there.

'IF'

I also want to again emphasise. I'm not against the player. I'm against the exorbitant fee for a 32 year old.
If we were to make a habit of this type of signing I would 100% be in agreement with you. However, I believe there are exceptional occasions when such signings are justified, and this is one of them.

We're crying out for a dominant defender, somebody who, for his height, is really good in the air and a fantastic organiser. We also need a natural leader on the pitch. We need these qualities right now. A quick fix if you like. We don't need a long term fix as there's plenty of potential already within the club.

Williams ticks all the boxes and some. Over the last 3 seasons I don't think I've seen a defender who has been more influential against us; at times he has seemed to keep us out singlehandedly. In fact, I find it hard to name a single opposition player who has stood out more against us. He replicated that in the euros this summer, one of the stand out players for me in what was, admittedly, a very low quality tournament.

His experience and influence on the younger defenders (whether that include Stones or his replacement) would be invaluable. His inclusion, together with a quality GK and DM, is needed to solve the significant defensive problems that have been all too evident I our pre-season so far. So yes, I believe the £10m price tag is not only justified, but actually represents good value for money in the current market given what he brings to the table.

I do believe we've enquired / negotiated about several high profile players and want at least 1 marquee signing. The question is if they all said yes today could we afford them?
The answer imo, excluding selling Rom n Stones, is no. The cautious approach we've taken to transfers, in contrast to the aggressive capture of RK, suggests we have less spending power than hoped.

no it doesn't mate.

we have the money. maybe not as much as some people convinced themselves, but we have enough to have agreed a €30mil fee for Witsel and bid €45mil for Koulibaly
