Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Or you know - Its hard to convince top quality to join a team that has finished 11th two seasons on the bounce. Yes, we can chuck money at them, but so can other teams who finished in better positions than us.

People are really underestimating the damage Roberto Martinez has done to the reputation of Everton.

spot on.

it's encouraging to me that we are going for players who are quality and proven at the highest level. ultimately though it's proving harder to get them in due to the fact we've been tosh for two years and so, by rights, the players are possibly weighing up their options and seeing if other (more recently successful) clubs bid for them.

I hate the modern football fan. It's getting beyond a joke now. Everything 'must' be done exactly how they want it, or the season's already a failure before it's even begun...

It's not stupid is it though - it's clear to see he's been out on the ale.

Unprofessional, unnecessary and he should be working harder than anyone after RUNNING OVER A CYCLIST DRUNK last season.

How's it clear. I also don't know how from that picture you've gathered his eyes are diluted and fly is undone? It's not at all clear...

There's been excuse after excuse put forward (by our fans not the club) as to why no significant signings as yet. For example :

No business (setting up of transfers) until new manager appointed and until after the Euros.
The new manager was on holiday.
Players on holiday.
Players involved in Euros were away on holiday.
Players only just back for training.
Manager needs to assess the squad he's got.
Manager needs to assess players in pre-season games.
Awaiting appointment of new Director of Football.
Potential targets away on tour with current clubs, so can't do proper business until back.
Potential targets can't be properly discussed until 'selling club' bring in marquee signing(s) eg Pogba).
Potential targets holding out for a better deal at Cl club (eg Witsel).
Sky money not released until 1st August.
Have to sell one of our main assets (eg Stones) to meet FFP rules first and free up cash.

So, we should be ready now surely........

Put forward but nothing officially from the club.
It's all hearsay and rumour and opinion.
Wait until the 1st of September to see the direction and ambition of the new regime.

But we can go out and buy Messi if he wanted to come....

Yet we're giving Darron Gibson a new two year contract because we might get half a million back on him if we're lucky.

Absolute garbage. Creating mass hysteria to sell season tickets and it's worked.

Who's said we can do that?

Unfortunately people seemingly base all of their opinions on this heresay. It's madness, really.

Very much so, being completely honest as well, think if we didn't have so many other areas in need of an overhaul - could very well see Coleman having been replaced as well, really don't know if he does what Koeman wants his fullbacks to do well, great going forward and underated defensively, but two worst parts of his game by far are closing down and crossing, both things that Koeman seems to demand his fullbacks excel at.

Most of the squad (excluding the youth as we have seen) dont typically play the way he has set up sides in the past.

'Hate' is such a strong word, its just other fans opinions, dont take it so personal

The conundrum for Everton is that for the theoretical £100m + sales budget, we are trying, laudably, I think to sign select players at the top end of our range (£30m plus, more for KK) which is exactly the level of player we appear to be struggling to attract.

It would be better to sign 3 £35m players in terms of the potential quality/impact they would have than say, 7 £15m signings.

What I don't understand is the apparent fixation with Witsel in particular, and you wonder if this rigidity applies to the other targets also.

It's great to persist and bag the majority of your targets if that comes to pass but surely seeing we have more resources than ever before, we could have already sourced 4-5 players in what is a global market that would constitute a big improvement to the starting XI / squad?

My concern is what happens if we are heading into the final week of the window and none of the known targets have signed? What is the plan of action then? At what point do we draw a line in the sand for some/all of these players and say enough is enough?

With Witsel in particular, I think the time has come now for the club to make its position publicly known. I actually admire the closed shop policy Everton appear to have as it's futile to comment on speculation but this particular saga is bordering on farce now.

The guy is a professional paid handsomely. He either gets on a flight and takes his medical here this week or does one. I am happy to hold fire on the other targets and our business in general until the end of August. I just hope we are working on alternatives in several areas.

I agree with this. I´m a bit concerned about the apparent lacka of a plan B myself.

I don't take it personal mate. In fact I'd say i'm one of the few who don't seem to take everything in a transfer window personally!

But yes, maybe it is a bit strong. 'The modern football fan is extremely annoying'. How about that?

I agree with this. I´m a bit concerned about the apparent lacka of a plan B myself.

But that's only because you're assuming that plan A is failing, when there's no real evidence to support either argument?

There's very little evidence that anything has gone wrong so far mate.

Wait and see.

Said it on the moshiri thread that I don't believe these deals are real, or at least not the volume of them.might he coming off as pessimistic but I'm trying to be a realist instead. Rather than bounce around that we are spending 150 million plus just curb my enthusiasm a tad bit at the fact these deals still aren't being sorted all this time later. There must be a reason for it , we can't be this bad at negotiating
I do believe we've enquired / negotiated about several high profile players and want at least 1 marquee signing. The question is if they all said yes today could we afford them?
The answer imo, excluding selling Rom n Stones, is no. The cautious approach we've taken to transfers, in contrast to the aggressive capture of RK, suggests we have less spending power than hoped.

Everton set for "busy" week in transfer market, says Erwin Koeman
“Ronald and the chairman are very busy with that,” says Blues assistant boss

Everton will be “very busy” trying to secure signings this week, says Erwin Koeman.

The Blues have yet to sign an outfield player this summer with goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg the only new arrival since Ronald Koeman took charge in mid-June.

Everton kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Spurs in less than two weeks and the manager wants to bolster his squad with new faces.

The transfer window does not shut until the end of August but Blues No.2 Erwin suggests the club will step up their efforts to sign players this week.

“Ronald and the chairman are very busy with that,” he said.

But either way, Everton’s new assistant manager insists that there will be no excuses for the squad not being fit and ready for the season’s curtain raiser at Goodison on August 13.

The Blues finished their short stay in Germany with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Real Betis in the Dresden Cup after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

On Wednesday night, Koeman takes his side to Old Trafford to play against Manchester United in Wayne Rooney’s testimonial before they welcome Espanyol to Merseyside for their final warm-up game of the summer.

“Some players made their first minutes here and they need more time,” Erwin said.

“We can talk about a lot of things but in two weeks the league starts and we have to be ready.

“There is no excuse for that.

“It’s for us but all the other teams too.

“Not one team in the Premier League is ready for the moment. In two weeks the circus will start.”

Asked if some of Everton’s squad were struggling to cope with the change in style implemented by his brother Ronald, Erwin said: “It’s different for players.

“They are used to playing of the way of Martinez and now we have to play the way Ronald likes.

“That is not always easy.

“Of course you have some players who start late. It takes time but we know in two weeks we have to perform.”
