Everton Transfer Thread 2016

I agree we can afford Witsel and maybe even Mata as well but we can't afford Koulibaly without the sale of Stones.
I don't know that for certain of course but I'll predict right now, with over a month to deadline, the net spend will be no where near 100 mill.
When that happens excuses will be made to facilitate the continuation of the illusion that we're super rich but Koeman, like most managers, will push to spend most of what's there so the net spend will reflect the reality of our financial level, which is very probably a reflection of our new investors financial level.

But in fairness we don't need Koulibaly unless Stones goes do we?

And yeh people thinking it was going to be city levels of investment are deluded. We have enough money to get our targets but the main issue at the movement is seemingly convincing them to a side that has finished 11th two years running

Really terrible summer to be honest. The squad needed overhauling and all we've done is release three, sell a goalkeeper and replace him with a Championship reserve and seemingly be rejected by numerous players who wrote obviously weren't going to want to join us anyway. What's all this "hard work" that's been going on? The squad should be getting its finishing touches now ahead of the season but the main work hasn't even happened. I guess our stock is at a 20 year low hence nobody wants to join us.

I think it's no coincidence that our transfer targets have drastically changed after Steve Walsh was appointed, and I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. Yet. We could have gone for a dof who likes to spend big but I think it was a very careful selection. I think we're looking for something similar to Leicester's set up. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't have a big money marquee signing unless Lukaku and Stones are sold. Probably looking at several 15-20m players

....one would be good.

True this, even if Stones stays I would like us to get Williams but Koulibaly is only really to replace someone, hopfully for less then Stones might go for.

With all due respect, people on here are "concerned" that we have no "plan B". Nobody on here knows what our "Plan A" is. People are just guessing, throwing the toys out the pram as we haven't signed anyone. Moshiri, Walsh and Koeman will have a plan - of course they will. What successful businessman is going to invest in a football club and not have one? What Everton have become exceedingly good at is playing their cards close to their chests. We'll find out when the club are ready to announce - anything else is just pure speculation and/or opinion. Maybe the ITKs on various forums are being fed duff information purposely - and that could be part of the secrecy blanket (or to flush out where the information is leaking).

I'm still relaxed - I know those in charge will be doing what is best for the future of Everton. If on deadline day we still haven't signed anyone then I'll start flapping too, but until then....what's the rush?
Ideally I would have liked 2 or 3 bedded in by the start of the season. Thinking CB and GK (1st choice one). I agree that 1st Sept is really the key date, but under the new regime I thought we'd be moving a bit quicker than we are/have. I know that many things influence how your plans work or flow, so patience is key (I just don't have much of it - haha!).

There's been excuse after excuse put forward (by our fans not the club) as to why no significant signings as yet. For example :

No business (setting up of transfers) until new manager appointed and until after the Euros.
The new manager was on holiday.
Players on holiday.
Players involved in Euros were away on holiday.
Players only just back for training.
Manager needs to assess the squad he's got.
Manager needs to assess players in pre-season games.
Awaiting appointment of new Director of Football.
Potential targets away on tour with current clubs, so can't do proper business until back.
Potential targets can't be properly discussed until 'selling club' bring in marquee signing(s) eg Pogba).
Potential targets holding out for a better deal at Cl club (eg Witsel).
Sky money not released until 1st August.
Have to sell one of our main assets (eg Stones) to meet FFP rules first and free up cash.

So, we should be ready now surely........

Fair post that...the club would argue that behind the scenes they are moving heaven and earth but in the end it comes down to what has been achieved.

We don,t get a trophy for bringing players in on deadline day.

The EPL competition starts in 2 weeks and we should be ready for the spurs game with most of squad in place with all the appropriate pre-season completed with new players to hit the ground running.

It's great to see so many people on GOT who have extensive experience in running Premiership football clubs. Where would Everton be without their valuable insights into what the club is doing wrong :coffee:

Paying five times his worth for a 32 year old is a really special instance of poor value though.

He would have been a good solid signing in my view, he would have given us some much needed leadership at the back, hate the thought of Stones and Mori together, they just don't gel. Williams is captain material. 10 million for three years is chicken feed, with the money in football now. But to each their own, we move on.

Paying five times his worth for a 32 year old is a really special instance of poor value though.

Every one of us said we lack leadership at the back and a hard tackling midfielder. Williams and Gueye seem to solve those two issues much more than Mata/Witsel would. Nowhere near as exciting but sensible signings, with Williams having leadership qualities.

Face it nobody would have swapped Baines/Jagielka/Stones/Coleman for Fuchs/Morgan/Huth/Simpson yet that set of players ended up being a far better unit.

I'd like to know how Koeman feels about being given a "war-chest" to spend when the top players have seemingly no interest in coming to the club, it must be frustrating, and to be honest has made us look a bit West Ham-ish in my opinion.

Williams for 2-3 seasons as a rock at the back alongside John Stones (who we just should not sell) for £10m is a great signing. We had NO leaders last season at all. I cringed when we spent £5m on Distin who was a similar age years back, when we had no money and he turned out a great buy.

Get this deal done. He would fit straight in and could even improve Funes Mori if he played alongside him. Jags will be a bit part-player this year I think. Make Williams vice-captain. This is a no brainer. I cant see it happening though.

Get this Gueye in and ship out McCarthy (if that is what Koeman wants) and get Witsel sorted!

I think we should stand firm on Lukaku and Stones because we simply arent going to make a statement on big signings, even if we get Witsel it will be because 5 other clubs have turned him down.
