almost definitely. If somebody offers god money for Gibson and/or McCarthy - if we've got midfielders in, imagine they'll be off. Same for Stones/Rom if their valuations are met

Ronald Koeman is looking to complete a reunion with Saints captain Jose Fonte at Everton, with the club submitting a £9million offer, according to Duncan Castles of the Daily Record.
The defender was at the heart of the Portugal team that won the European Championships earlier in the month and is attracting attention from all over continent. Manchester United are also said to be targeting a move for Fonte, but must remove the deadwood from their squad before making a move.
With Manchester United some way off completing a deal, Everton have stormed in with the hope that they can complete a deal under the noses of the Manchester club, but it is likely that their opening offer of £9million will be rebuffed.
As Southampton captain, the defender will be an integral part of the club’s future and the Saints hierarchy will not want to let one of their most prized assets leave for such a low fee.
With John Stones set to swap Merseyside for the blue half of Manchester, the Toffees would likely use a chunk of that fee in an attempt to convince Fonte to make the move up North. Other defensive targets include Swansea’s Ashley Williams andNapoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
our best XI as it stands is good enough to get a result vs Spurs mate. Hopefully there'll be at least 1 or 2 in by then that can take some part in the game as well
Fonte is a superb centre half. The rs signed the wrong one with lovrenPlease no... I know it'd be funny, but it'd be a horrible signing. He's tailor made for that club and would be a calamity elsewhere.
Like a defender version of Vardy.
Urgh... we've descended to Williams and Fonte from VVD and Koulibaly. Horribly depressing.

We're making progress with our major targets and we've got a month of the window left
Having written my list, it makes me think I can't be right, as surely we won't sign 3 centre mids (Gueye, Witsel & Carvalho) and keep all of Gibson, McCarthy, Barry, Cleverley and Besic. 8 seems completely overkill, even Spurs would probably scoff at having 8 and they're a breeding ground for CMs.
It's another suitably vague prophecy that could apply to any number of stories that may or may not metrialise regarding the club.I have no idea who our 'major targets' are anymore, we've been 'close' with that many.
Duncan Castles though.
I think he's a player who has been enhanced by being at a club that suits him since he was brought in as a no-mark in League One, and has carried that sense of belonging to the international stage.
Displacing him has a very high chance of resulting in a big flop at the wrong side of 30.
We should be looking at much better options.
