Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Ronald Koeman is looking to complete a reunion with Saints captain Jose Fonte at Everton, with the club submitting a £9million offer, according to Duncan Castles of the Daily Record.

The defender was at the heart of the Portugal team that won the European Championships earlier in the month and is attracting attention from all over continent. Manchester United are also said to be targeting a move for Fonte, but must remove the deadwood from their squad before making a move.

With Manchester United some way off completing a deal, Everton have stormed in with the hope that they can complete a deal under the noses of the Manchester club, but it is likely that their opening offer of £9million will be rebuffed.

As Southampton captain, the defender will be an integral part of the club’s future and the Saints hierarchy will not want to let one of their most prized assets leave for such a low fee.

With John Stones set to swap Merseyside for the blue half of Manchester, the Toffees would likely use a chunk of that fee in an attempt to convince Fonte to make the move up North. Other defensive targets include Swansea’s Ashley Williams andNapoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

If the Daily Record said it then it must be true. Just like Roy Keane's the Celtic boss, Craig Whyte's wealth is off the radar, Billy Davies is the Kilmarnock manager, Jason Cummings is a Rangers player and Craig Slater plays for Aberdeen.

If that joke of a paper told me that the grass was green then I'd have to double check.

it seems a fairly amateurish and half hearted operation within the Everton ranks at the moment considering we triggered this clause early last week that it has not been done.

Are we 'short on the ground' on the transfer committee this year ?

Could well be that we´re understaffed.

8 incoming? Probably what we need considering we binned Osman, Pienaar and Hibbert....Niasse is off on loan and it looks like we may be shipping McCarthy, Kone and a few others out. And Stones. We have the youngsters but we also need more experienced strength in depth. This is looking like a proper clearout from Ron.

No sorry meant that having 8 centre mids overall would be overkill, not 8 signings in general. Agree that we probably need about 8 signings - GK, RB, 2xCB, 2xCM, LM, 2xCF. 9 then.

Wouldn't be arsed if any of - Joel, Oviedo, Garbutt, Cleverley, Gibson, McCarthy, McGeady, Kone, Niasse left.

Read in another thread that we're looking at a young Cayman Island rep.
I am very much liking the new Everton way of casting the transfer net far and wide. In fact I am a little surprised this thread is only 2857 pages long, given all the ins and outs that have happened.
Hopefully the hectic pace of transfers will slow soon and we can all take a deep breath.

PS would we be the first premier club to have a Cayman Islander?

Having written my list, it makes me think I can't be right, as surely we won't sign 3 centre mids (Gueye, Witsel & Carvalho) and keep all of Gibson, McCarthy, Barry, Cleverley and Besic. 8 seems completely overkill, even Spurs would probably scoff at having 8 and they're a breeding ground for CMs.
I reckon we need 2 deep in each position in midfield of which we play 3. So that's 6 players.

Basically 2 of McCarthy, Barry, cleverly and besic are off.

In regard to Gueye/Gana (whatever his name is), I reckon medical tomorrow, signed Tuesday, start against Utd Wednesday.

If we get 8 in and 3 or 4 leaving then we are in for a huge rollercoaster ride over the next month.

Agree that this would be far from ideal in terms of gelling a team together to get results but over the longer term I would be willing to pay that price to see us get badly needed reinforcements in and deadwood out. Besides it's not guaranteed that such upheaval would necessarily see inconsistency and poor results - we have had that anyway from a settled squad.

The key weeks are the week to come and the final week of the window I think. Surely if there is going to be ins/out on the scale suggested by Esk we'll see at least 3 in this week?

Hopefully EK's prediction of a busy week ahead is proved correct. It would be a big morale lift for us all no doubt about it.
