Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Project is a word I've heard a number of times.
Surely waiting for a possible more quality player towards the end of the window rather than rushing in and buying because "season starts next week ffs".
I'd rather we struggle a little for a few games early on and then power on with our preferred targets through the season.

There is no quick fix.

What are you comparing our strength against? If you are comparing our side against last season, we only need to replace them with players that are better than they were last season to get better. Comparing our strength against when Howard, Piennar, Osman, Hibbert were in their prime is irrelevant in terms of evaluating whether we have got better in the off season.

I hope we can get replacements in that contribute far more than they did last year which should not be hard. Like you, I also hope that said replacements will be better than they were in their prime.

The real comparison has to be with the rest of the Premier League, and a lot of clubs have moved on and progressed significantly over the last few years. To claim we have improved because we have failed to replace good players like Pienaar and Tim Howard is ridiculous, and only has a modicum of validity if you use last season and their very last season as Premier League players as indicators of what those players offered to Everton. I'm sorry, but it's a real stretch to describe losing those players and failing to replace them as improvement.

It stinks that the window doesn't close until after we are 3 games in because this squad isn't ready for the season. Hopefully it is by the end of August

The idea that a club controlled by someone like Moshiri, managed by someone like Koeman, now aided by someone like Walsh is somehow deliberately being tardy in the transfer market is an interesting concept to say the least.

It's a difficult market, Pogba has certainly had an effect. We got very close on two early on in the window, neither of whom have joined anot her club yet and we remain firmly in the frame with them. Additional targets have yet to join a competing club so we continue to be active in persuing them.

Koeman talked of a busy week this week, the only unplanned event so far was Swansea's rejection of the then 'current offer' for Williams, something which should be readily resolved. Given Koeman is not usually unreliable it's reasonable to assume more activity this week.

I remain confident of what I expect will be a further 7 incoming, although not all obviously before the season start.
I may faint if 7 do come in

I feel it's now time we stepped up sorry to say. The goalkeeping situation for example is one completely within our control.

Just look at this tonight. We are crying out for a midfield. I'm still with you that we will do ok in the market. But it's 10 days till it starts and I'm worried.

I get what you're saying but think Stekkers has had a great game tonight. Would say there's other areas we need to reinforce first tbh.

Read my post properly then. I never claimed we will get better by not replacing them did I?

All I said was judging our relative improvement in the off season we are currently in should be made by comparing what we have lost from last season against what we have gained to start the next season. How good Howard, Piennar etc were ten years ago doesn't matter in terms of improving now.

That being said, I of course want the best possible replacements.

It was a rebuttal to your post. You classed my realism as negativity and I disagreed. I can't be arsed providing you with the numerous references of zealous fawning over Roberto Martinez and the best side in 30 years that were plentiful until around March of this year. Search for them yourself, they won't be in short supply. Not everyone wants to be called a bed wetter or threatened with excommunication if they don't agree with people's delusions either.

Finding posters praising Martínez up to a certain periodo. Yep, easy. Finding some posters saying the odd thing about strongest squad in however long. Yep, youll find them too. However you were on about some posters saying those things and now saying our problema were all the coach and the squad is great but unbalanced. Im not surprised you couldnt be arsed going to find some examples of this because I think you'd struggle to back up your vague whinge. Trying to make it sound as if half the forum is like this....

Also you might be throwing around deluded as much as people are throwing around the term bedwetters ;)

Realism Dymak would involve at least some hint of positivity in your posts and would not involve you positing the worst case scenario as if its a fact.......in........every........single...........post.

Its not as simple as, every poster calling you a whingebag or a bedwetters is deluded. I personally am not overly excited by the new manager for example, and know no more than the next fan what our final squad will be, so I couldn't call how this season will go. Id wager it will be an improvement, but whether a small or big one I have zero idea. Its possible our squad is not good enough....as the Guardián put it, its the mix now of three different managers players........but its not a certain as you keep stating.

Can you actually just make on post here listing a few things you are happy about at the club?

We don't even need flipping 7 players. We need 3 quality ones. People can defend the board all they like but as yet, it's been far off what we expected and were led to believe would happen.

And I'm not suggesting they aren't trying to make top signings. I'm suggesting that they aren't doing a good enough job. Two different things.

I want vaulted into oblivion come September. Make it happen.

No problem.

Sorry Esk but I don´t buy that Pogba is the reason we have failed miserably in the transfer market this summer. Surely we could have done more, gotten players in that would have improved us; if now like you say we have money to spend (which I´m not convinced of - I think Koeman has been brought in because he does well on a limited budget) there are good footballers all across Europe. Better than what we have currently at least. Why didn´t we go for somebody else when Witsel didn´t arrive? Why have we wasted so much time?
