Everton Transfer Thread 2016

The Koubilay dream died a long, long time ago.

He doesnt want it, not even a tiny bit.

The whole forum is saying we should stop holding on for players who dont want to sign, but the very second we move on people are saying "WHY ARE WE MOVING ON", unreal.

this is a valid point Goat. Maybe Gauye was 2nd on the list behind Carvalho, BMI was back up to the Napoli lad.

If these top players don't want to come well we need to move on and get others in and hopefully that's what we are doing. If we do get BMI and Williams, along with Stekkers that's 3 of 5 positions already looking at getting changed under Koeman.

They say a good side is built on solid foundations so maybe we are going to have to let him get the back line sorted first and grind out some wins. I'm sure he definitely won't want us as open as we were under Martinez

Whatever combination of CBs we've had recently they've all struggled with defending crosses or long diagonal balls. Williams and Indi are both strong and good in the air. Both have the leadership qualities we are missing throughout the whole side. Southampton had a great defence last season and that was with VVD and Fonte neither of whom are of the highest quality. If Koeman can Marshall a rock solid defence we have a great chance considering the offensive quality of Lukaku.

According to Swansea fans WIlliams has been poor in the air, but whenever I've watched him he's always been commanding.

Maybe it's more down to his positioning, however, rather than actual aerial ability.

Koulibaly has had a good 6 months, it was utter madness spending a fortune on a gamble.

The boy Koeman knows what Indi can do, maybe he knows what makes him tick and will get the best out of him? If not, at least we havent spunked 45m on some yard dog that only broke into the Senegal team in the last 6months.

Pretty sure Koeman managed Indi at Feyenoord did he not?

Actually, yes, he did. They both left the club in the same summer

Indi was one of the most highly touted names in Europe before the world cup.

Struggled to settle in Portugal but has lots of talent.

as @bluestevon has pointed out, seems to indicate he's an alternative for Koulibaly if indeed he does come in.

However, since we're also bringing in a proven quality defender in Williams, it takes a lot of the pressure off the lad to hit the ground running.

Those two in this week at least gets the ball rolling. Hopefully we then step it up re. Mata or somebody of that ilk.

IF we are getting him mate and he is the second choice down from Koulibaly then we are utterly screwed when time comes for us to move on from say Mata and Witsel to our second choices in those positions - if this is the step down in quality

Gueye now actually seems like he was the second choice to Carvalho as well

Carvalho to Gueye
Koulibaly to Martins Indi

Why are we looking to free up 1m in additional wages (which is the reason to sell Stones) we can go to again exactly if this is the limit of what we are bringing in

Mata absolutely is the key signing - takes any team to the next level and relieves all the creative necessity from Barkley, who can then improve at his own rate.

Put Bony in the side with Lukaku as well and we are, all of a sudden, a quality side - better than the rubbish we've shown for the last two years.

Good transfer window so far?
Every good/decent player we are linked with, we're not getting, and every average/below average player that we are going for are signing for us.

also only 24 y.o early days

Perfect foil for Williams IMO.

Gives us two very experienced and PL proven defenders in Williams and Jags (both right sided), plus two decent but 'raw' left-sided defenders.

Throw in Holgate, and I imagine Galloway mainly as 5th/6th choice/back up full-backs, and Oviedo, Baines and Coleman, and that's a solid unit.

Agree to disgaree on that mate, IF we are selling Stones then a really top nothc defender at his peak should have been the priority, we went from one of those to Indi which is a massive downgrade in ambition and quality of a target

And Browning ;)

Baines, Williams, Indi, Jagielka, Mori, Coleman, plus all the youngsters. Sure, Koulibaly is not in there, but it looks quite good. I would get another right back perhaps.

Leicester won the league with Morgan and Huth. We need a solid defence and, if properly coached (which looking at Koeman's record it should be), we've got it.

It's in midfield and attack where we need to invest heavily.

Not sure I'd put Williams in that category but would agree that (to date with other clubs) Gueye and Indi have not shown themselves to be top tier players.

The pursuit of Mata has to be successful for us to be really seen to be making that next step or not.

Everton fans are a laughing stock. Moan that we haven't signed anyone as we're waiting on our primary targets then moan when we move onto the next target. Can't win can they?
