Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Who have we signed whose a big name who came because of koeman?

Answer = No one.
koeman has a huge task on his hands. It's hard to sign top players when the team has finnished 11th two seasons in a row and hasn't won a trophie in 20years. Yes we have money to spend but convincing players on a dream/project we have isn't going to be to be easy, just gotta have a little faith. Transfer window isn't closed yet, still time to get afew big names in

I don't understand why everybody places failure or success on net spend.

Because we are Evertonians and have years and years of examples of players being sold without significant investment back into the club. The fans were promised that Moshiri "would make your wildest dreams come true" and went into the transfer window with rumors of 100 million war chest. So whether you think the transfer window has been a success or not you can surely understand how some would be disappointed.

He's made a profit on his war chest!

Don't think it's that easy to differentiate between success and failure. Where do you draw the line.?

Think there needs to be more options. How about.

- Phenomenal

- Great

- Very Good

- Good

- O.K

- Disappointing

- Unsatisfactory

- Poor

- Embarrassing

I'm happy with the business done so far as regards personnel, but we need more and I expected more. Given the scenario you propose, which is, of course, hypothetical, I would say I would rate it between OK and disappointing.
It was just a question, nothing behind it and i offered both sides of the coin below it :)

Generally the issue i have overall is not that we haev't signed an expensive player, or spent a certain amount, but generally this winodw isn't any different to any other, part from the fact we are now offering higher wages. Realistically if we signed 2 and one was the right back, 20 million on gabbiadani. The net spend being roughly 20 is what i would expect from crystal palace to have, or west brom, or any other mid table team.

It is hard to explain this without everyone jumping in thinking i am being pessamistic or whatever. But it isn't a case of 'we haven't spent 100 million net so i'm fuming', far from it. But at the same time it isn't exactly pushing us forward to not go out of our way money wise and essentially still operate mainly a sell to buy model. The amount of money before you even factor Moshiri into it should realistically lead to more being invested.

And there is always the 'wait and see' attitude and 'we could sign this player or that' and genuinely if we did sign a few more players and decent ones at that then this window would prove to be a massive success. But i just have the feeling we won't have nay suprises and more importantly not see any player signed who improves us simply by them being in a blue shirt like others mooted would have done. the sum of all parts may be better and i would still be optimistic this season if we closed the window right now, but the squad would have improved, not the team.

Y'see, I like that post...I don't agree with bits of it but I totally get what you're saying and it's a million miles from some of the 'WE'RE CRAP....NOTHING'S CHANGED....TYPICAL US' panic-waffle that's doing the rounds...

So nice one the ASH...;)

First line too, think that's what hooked a LOT of us in the sense of 'we're bought now, watch what WE get...'

And then nothing 'marquee-like' arrived so a wobble began to build.

But I'm satisfied that it can be little but a slow-build, we're in a better place and I'd sooner this than big-quid gambles on players like poor OUMAR.

Ash, you're rambling, go and have a little lie down, come back and summarise it for me please x

I think many on here have an inflated view of how much other teams spend. West Brom and Crystal Palace for example, being brought up, have spent 10 mill, and -3 mill.

Lets say, for example, we bought Gabbiadini and Hart for a combined 45 mill. As it stands we would be the 4th biggest spending team in the world with a net spend of 49 mill, behind Man City, Man United, and Barcelona, and spending more than Athletico Madrid, PSG, Arsenal, Chelsea, Juve, Bayern etc etc. Two players out of the dozens we have been heavily linked with make the difference between middle of the road and world leading net spend.

I get why we should all try and be positive until the transfer window closes as we may all be suprised but I remember when Boro bought Ravenelli, Juninhio, and Emerson just after having gained promotion in '95 because they had financial backing.

I find it hard to believe there isn't a talented South American footballer who couldn't add something to our team who hasn't been picked up yet\overlooked by one of the big European clubs. Likewise, the same with some players in Europe and Africa.

Either Walsh and the scouting team aren't highlighting enough 'realistic' additions or we're only focussing on the top tier targets but currently it's not looking good.

Deadline day is a bit of a lottery, sometimes you'll find targets will become available that you had no idea you'd be able to get but other times you'll find little room for manouver with targets as the clock runs down and you end up panic buying to appease the fans.

As it stands it's looking like we're going to play the lottery. Risky imo.

Good post this.

I think it will difficult to tempt a top class player given our last league finish. Hopefully we can add a couple of good players before the window shuts.

If we can't get a lukaku type deal done in this window then hopefully we're up the league in January and we can sign someone to give us a big boost then.

I'm optimistic about the future but I guess from a non Everton perspective we need to prove that things are different. No way else to do that but on the pitch.
