From Mata's perspective given the choice of regular football at United or a move elsewhere he preferred to stay where he was. It was only the uncertainty of how much play Jose would offer him that caused him to consider seriously moves elsewhere.

As ever with Jose you can never be sure of his real intent, hence the thought that Mata may still move before the window closes.

I reckon that Jose playing mata is a game, showing everyone that he doesn't need to sell him and if other teams want him then make it worth united's time. I can see mata losing his place soon if he doesn't leave, I half expected him to be a starter up to the window, it's classic mourinho

don't really ever get that vibe from Mourinho: he's a results man and he wouldn't play a player who he doesn't want or doesn't trust to help get the result in. Maximising transfer value of unwanted players isn't his game.

Oh he his a results man, but mata is a fantastic player who does add value to a team. He's the Kong of mind games and I just can see one of the best players in geany last year sitting on the bench for much longer.
