Maybe in a few years when Reece Oxford's future is more clear and Byram's performances show one way or another along with others they could be talked about but right now disputing who is clearly the better developing English players is a bit foolish.

Right back was not as urgent as certain other areas though. I really don't see it as a big loss at all. If the manager is that bothered about it there are a million other Sam Byram's out there.

If I was Byram I would have went to West Ham.

If I was Martinez though, I wouldn't have went public with my intent, or admiration. The player met with the manager, went elsewhere.

That's why, in my opinion, it's not a good episode for the manager.

But fair play to Martinez for trying, he was right to. A very Everton type player - a player we should be in for.

The point i was making is that Weat Ham dont produce england players. Addtionally we have several on our team.

I seem to remember the Byram type of posts appearing when it looked like Garbutt wasn't going to sign a new contract.He's not pulling up any trees at Fulham and doubt he'd get picked ahead of Galloway if Baines was out.Lower division players have potential and nothing more than that so hopefully the money will go towards a player in a position where we really need cover.

one week ago, byram was said to have preferred a move to everton.
Either we are offering nothing wages or his squad status is rotation or backup.
I dont think we should lie to players and risk upsetting the dressing room futher.
The manager has done well.

I disagree. The player agreed terms and even went as far as to have a medical. Can't do much more than what we did.

It sounds like he's been promised first team football which is the only thing we couldn't offer him.

Massive shame we've missed out on Byram. Not going to pretend he's gash or anything just because we're not getting him; he would have been great for us.
