Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Amazing how many are willing to desperately pick up a stick like 'players not wanting to stay' to beat a manager with. We finished 11th last season and not only kept what we had but added to the squad.

No use presenting facts though.

The two week window of opportunity for venting is almost over. Thank goodness.
we signed a free transfer, a loan/buy (depending on perspective), a south american defender and signing a spurs reject permanently.

Yeah mate, all those scream ambition on paper. Especially when our centre half asked to leave.

As fopr finishing there again, finish somewhere once is a fluke, do it nconsecutively and it isnt a fluke. Therefore to any player who is good enough to step up levels in their career, we aren't good enough anymore.

And who out of those wasn't good enough for us? Surely the ONLY criteria to judge purchases.

The frustration comes from seeing a bunch of players that are clearly talented but can't do the basics right, because the coaches/management aren't good enough.

So I think we'll struggle to attract top quality players under Martinez because of this. Even if we managed to sign them I wouldn't expect much improvement for the same reason.
I'm not a huge fan of his right now but how is it the manager's fault for them not doing the basics? Surely any talented player should already have the basics down without the need for a manager to bring it out of them.

Basics like closing players down and defending as a team are up to the manager to sort out. But this is drifting off topic...

Depends which way you look at it. On the basis we are a mid table club now, they are all good enough.

Speaks volumes though when spurs can cast a shadow over us and all we do is sign their rejects.

But is that what you want? Us to sign that level of players rather than good ones? Or ones to improve the first 11?

I was talking about us being less attractive to top quality players. Which we will be.

I hope we get a result at the weekend and hopefully things will feel a bit more positive but the last 2 seasons under Martinez has conditioned me into expecting a frustrating performance and poor result (unless it's a cup game).
Imagine if we lose........

As rejects go , he isn't bad.

Are Leicester now a top four team forever or just this season, are Chelsea a mid table team. Will we be contesting cup semifinals, and maybe finals, every season ?

Categorising teams is just nonsense. We are a mid table team this year, but may not be next year. We could be cup winners and midtable this season..would that make us a better team than just a midtable team ?

I do believe that we should be doing better with the talent in the squad and the manager must carry the blame for that.
The manager believes in attacking football and scoring goals, but that is not enough if you leak goals like a sieve.

His job depends on finding a formula which allows us to play good football but be tight at the back... that is his acid test.
If he succeeds we can finish anywhere, if he fails I think he loses his job at some stage next season.

I know he's like 31 but I wouldn't mind Ashley Williams coming in as a stop gap signing. Him and Mori as 1st choice with Jags and Stones (or another long term CB if he's sold) to be on the bench.

We signed last summer an Argentime international and Cope Libertadores winning CB; a 'Spurs reject' who just so happens to be our best player this season apart from Lukaku; Deulofeu; and Cleverley (a player who hasn't let anyone down).

If you want superstars in, pay superstar cash.

Well west ham and stoke trumped us in the market to be fair. Where were they 2 years ago?

The year before we overpaid on a striker to make sure we got him (not a bad thing) signed a 34 year old midfielder and went shopping in the Hungarian league.

Oddly enough considering two of those signings we finished mid table again.

We always get outmuscled in the transfer market. In the past with clubs like Blackburn and Newcastle and Villa, It's nothing new. That's why the much vaunted Moshiri cash will be required.

Considering how much we pay lukaku that isn't necessarily true.

This extra money we have won't suddenly allow us to outspend anyone either, just put us on a level playing field

Jordan Lukaku hasn't been picked up earlier for a good reason, he has only just started showing some real talent. Nothing like Rom in the way of showing extreme potential early on.

I'm all for signing young players, they have the drive to succeed. But we need to add several players in the prime of their career or at least entering (only if they have been around the league for a length of time.)

Goalkeeper wise, I really like the look of Nyland, the Norwegian, talented keeper, collects crosses and is composed in possession. Of a good age too
